What would you do, motor repair

Alright so moneys a little tight, but my motors blown. I have 2 options, Im 100% sure my head gaskets gone and i think I have fucked up a ring or somthing.

Anyways my parents are giving me a LOAN to fix my car as I need it fixed now.

Here are my opptions.
A) Ca18det, Full freshinging up, an est. 45000Km needs a turbo, No warrenty or gaurentee on the motor but there is on the work, and these guys seem to really know what there doing. Cost $2500 (this is what i think is the best option)

B)Fix the head gasket and fix what ever breaks next, Btw my car has 370000Km on it cost $500-$700 (my parents want to loan me the money for this, they dont like not having a warrentee)

Please think about it, RIght now this is not about power its about getting a motor in that will get me threw another 2 years of school.

any ways put a poll no crap please.

hey why not just grab another KA, and do a swap. Phill’s got one in his garage. Id think that’d be the best alternative if you just want something that drives and is reliable.

Go with the KA

Ca is a good engine, and it can be reliable (mine never gives me any problems at all), but the ka option will be cheaper.
Debt sucks, and a turbo engine will keep making you want to dump money into your car.
Suuure you say you’ll be fine with 170-200hp, but you wont, you’ll want more.

Try find a used ka, like Gt-101 just posted.

I would do the Ka but i do want to mod starting mid spring, Its just right now where im strapped for cash and hours are slow. Debt to my parents i have no problem with cuze they dont care when they get it back.

With that in mind, Ca?

do not do CA.

it CAN be fast, buy YOU cant make it fast if you are on a budget.

get a KA, maybe have Chris swap it for you down here.

then modify with suspension and wheels and brakes in the summer,

I say get a KA and do the swap as soon as you possibly have the funds to do so. If you can not do the swap anytime soon then do not spend money fixing the motor. I suggest using the TTC for awhile or ask some friends for rides here and there or go taxi…

but its not worth fixing a blown motor at the moment and lets say half a year from now switching that motor you just spent money to fix on something else.

id get a loan from family/friends and if you cant then try getting a loan from the bank only if you have good credit or have been working at a job long enough to do so.

Thats my thoughts on the subject.

I know someone selling the KA24DE motor on tranny if you want to speak to him let me know.

As i said, im not looking for speed right now, The motor im beeing offered, The CA is apparently in great shape with everything being new or almost new with under 50K.

Come summer, i wont have a budget, im just looking for somthing strong, and reliable, that with some sort of work can have a nice lil pull, and from everything i have done The Ca is a good motor as a daily and pretty well built.

Pick up a good KA for 200 bucks or less and drop it in… it can be swapped in a day easily and its cheap until you decided what you really want. Esp. with winter coming you don’t want to be outside freezing your ass off tring to figure out why the CA isn’t running right or something (not saying CA’s aren’t reliable but it won’t be as reliable as a KA will be from the get go)

Your replies are hilarious! You keep trying to justify the turbo motor, while everyone is saying that a KA is the way to go in your situation.

Given the fact that you are on a budget now and won’t be next summer, a low mileage KA is definitely the way to go. You’ll spend much less money up front and have the option to go turbo next summer.

dont be dump and follow the jdm way to be cool method, get a KA it will cost you nothing therefore you will not be in debt and will have money to mod in the spring.

once spring comes you can turbo the KA.

I find my Ca more reliable, runs better, and gets better gas mileage than my ka.
BUT, this is because my swap was done right.
The main problem people have with swapping in sr/ca is that it is not done 100% and things will crop up.

As Bing said, you can make a ca fast, but it will cost you.

In your case KA is the way to go.
You could put the ka in now for cheap, then save up money and when you do your ca swap, spend the extra money for extra goodies and put them all in at once, it will save you money if other people do the swap for you and save you time.

thanks gents :run:

Option C: Grab another KA, maybe even a DOHC, for a good price. Use the rest of the money to do some work to it or save for a turbo.

The CA is not a bad idea but the no warrenty issue would worry me too. Go through Varun for a motor if you decide this route as all of his are perfect and he backs up what he sells 1000%.

These would be your best options in my opinion.

Good luck man and let me know if there’s anything I can do to help.

Take care.

Easy 8)

Just throw in my old KA…swap your tranny on it and youre set until next summer.

Then strip down your blown motor, build it, stroke it, T88 it. Done.

so many ideas.

so many things to choose from.

Grab my KADE. Just needs another intake cam (I can tell you where to
get one). Practically new clutch (under 3000km on it). And only 158KM
on the motor.

You can pick it up for $250

Naw if im gonna put a ka in im gonna just leave it sohc. Since i dont wanna spend the extra cash to put the De in.

What’s the extra cash in switching to a DE?

You get full harness, ecu, tranny, motor, etc. :dunno:

I thought there was some custom work that had to be done to get it to fit, and I belive someone said there is just no point. or maybe i have been up all night studying and im an idiot.

bing dont talk shit about ca’s im calling you out next spring bitch
