What's *really* going on...

Enough is enough, I can’t take it anymore. Here is what’s really going on.

I’m not going to bother explaining myself - just look at the pictures and you’ll understand. Enjoy…

First things first. Out comes the old
http://jammin.jshost.ca/swap/timeline-small/day1-1(29).jpg

Test fit of transmission – Doesn’t fit too well, most people mount it this way but cutting corners wasn’t in the plan …
http://jammin.jshost.ca/swap/timeline-small/day1-1(33).jpg

Or was it???
http://jammin.jshost.ca/swap/timeline-small/day1-2(1).jpg

Brace yourself. If it wasn’t for this reinforcement the car was about to collapse in half under it’s own weight
http://jammin.jshost.ca/swap/timeline-small/day1-2(15).jpg

The cutting begins. I had left the room with tears in my eyes for this part :frowning:

cries
http://jammin.jshost.ca/swap/timeline-small/day1-3(11).jpg

On the bright side… success!
http://jammin.jshost.ca/swap/timeline-small/day1-3(14).jpg

Shifter lines up nicely…

Patching our new hole
http://jammin.jshost.ca/swap/timeline-small/day4-3(4).jpg

Partially cleaned up firewall/tunnel
http://jammin.jshost.ca/swap/timeline-small/day3-1(21).jpg

Nearly finished rebuilt firewall/tunnel
http://jammin.jshost.ca/swap/timeline-small/day5-5(1).jpg

And from the inside (like I said, not finished yet)
http://jammin.jshost.ca/swap/timeline-small/day5-5(7).jpg

Clutch
http://jammin.jshost.ca/swap/timeline-small/day3-1(2).jpg

New oilpan w/ reverse-style pick-up (had to overnight this baby from Austrailia since I forgot to get it before we started)
http://jammin.jshost.ca/swap/timeline-small/day4-1(2).jpg

New Bushings
http://jammin.jshost.ca/swap/timeline-small/day4-1(4).jpg

New Multilink suspension for front (had rears too but not sure where the pics are)
http://jammin.jshost.ca/swap/timeline-small/day6-1(1).jpg

New timing sprocket and chain, might as well do it while motor is out
http://jammin.jshost.ca/swap/timeline-small/day6-1(13).jpg

New Coilovers
http://jammin.jshost.ca/swap/timeline-small/day6-2(6).jpg

Rear Installed w/ Multi-Link (Thanks Bing)
http://jammin.jshost.ca/ohio/54.jpg

Tein Tie Rods
http://jammin.jshost.ca/ohio/52.jpg

Needed to cut and re-enforce the crossmember in order for the oilpan to fit properly… contrary to how it appears, it’s much stronger than it was before the modifications
http://jammin.jshost.ca/swap/timeline-small/day6-3(7).jpg

New driveshaft. Rated for 800FT/LB. This part blew me away – I gave them the specs for this driveshaft less than 2 hours before this picture was taken. They fabricated it, painted it and delieverd it within that time.
http://jammin.jshost.ca/swap/timeline-small/day7-1(1).jpg

Flanges to be used for fabricated header and exhaust. Believe it or not (Don’t worry, I didnt) this is USD $255.00 worth of flanges after overnight shippin, etc. Dont ask.

Piping for exhaust
http://jammin.jshost.ca/swap/timeline-small/day1-1(49).jpg

Prototype ghetto motor mounts we fabricated… these need to be re-done as the motor sits a bit too high for the hood to close - the intake mani is bigger than we thought.

'bout time you let the cat outta the bag.

Wait, john, so is that an RB30 transmission with your RB20? Or are you going with an RB25 instead? Either way, it looks cool.

RB30 tranny on the RB20. needed the big tranny and new driveshaft because the RB20 is at a shop getting built for hopefully about 900-1000whp and 650-700ft/lb

should be done soon!

You’re building an RB20 to make 1000whp?! Not to sound skepitcal but it took the Honda crowd a decade to make 600whp on a Honda 2.0L block and you plan to make almost double on an unfamiliar engine? Do you plan to bore it out at least?

Why not just go V8 and turbo it?

hahahaha Sweet John, so how old are those pics??

;D

Sooo… are you gunna tell them what motor is going in there or what? It’ll be hard for me to bite my tongue any longer…

i didnt want to be the one to say it. Thanks Theo.

next hint:
WOW, that oil pan looks like a HUGE upgrade for an rb20.

That is really the sex i wonder how the torque curve will be on it. Quite curious what you’re brewing up. Your car (cars?) have been in the making for eternity. I still havent had a ride in it, even though you offered it a year ago lol and i was kind of lazy at the time (when you told me to check out how the ride feels with pillow ball stuff and megan racing track coilovers). At the time it was a concern for me, now i dont give a damn as i drive with a stripped/less weight/more noise car lol and its relatively stiff even though its not a coilover, and to me it feels soft now :stuck_out_tongue:

The stock torque curve made me not wana go rb20, even though i was pretty bent on going rb20 no matter what, my concern came down to lack of bottom end torque and the engine being heavier/more to the front… :frowning: My #1 concern is minimal weight and the engine being smaller/as far back to the firewall behind wheels as possible… but anyways, i’m concerned on rebuilding chassis properly and then suspension and brakes being upgraded even better before i do any power hogging still… might do a quick manual swap but nothing else.

I hope to see this car running faster than that amazing driveshaft 2 hour build up so I can finally go for a ride in the car :stuck_out_tongue:

I’m sure somebody will figure it out after seeing the pics.

And about the RB20 making 1000hp, it’s been done in japan. Who’s to say it can’t be done in Canada?

If it doesn’t work - maybe I’ll go get a V8 and run it NA at 400whp or so. Making 400whp for 6000rpm would be just as fun as making 1000whp for 1500rpm I figure.

Ha ha very funny. Jokes on me.

Seriously though, not that you are that guy John but how many build threads have you seen lately where people are shooting for ridiculous numbers…you got me hook line and sinker.

Wooot haha

Sorry man - I had to run with it after Mark started talking about RB30’s. And I completely agree with you - shit is getting out of hand.

This is just going to be a stock motor by the time it gets in. I’m going to have a basic rebuild done on it after the mounts get re-done properly because the motor isn’t exactly pretty as it stands right now.

With little bit of work I can get it up around 400 after I get used to the stock 300 or so.

It’s an LS1 for those who haven’t figured it out yet.

Ah cool, how’s the weight and weight distribution? I heard by hearsay that it’s better than stock KA, but I don’t actually know. I know in RX7s it apparently is 100% but not sure about our S13s.

its approx 125 lbs lighter than the KA

but its not the weight itself that needs to be taken in to consideration, its the weight distribution like you said. And that I don’t know numbers off of the top of my head but I’ve seen them and they’ve been pretty good.

It’s closer to SR than it is to KA. The motors are REALLY light, lighter than SR. But the tranny is like stupid heavy so it sort of offsets that.

Man that is purely awesome… I CANT WAIT, to get a ride and I WILL get a ride he he he :stuck_out_tongue: please :stuck_out_tongue: lol. That tranny is AMAZING though, getrag six speed… 120km/hr = 2000rpm in sixth.

Can’t wait…

110km/hr = 1200rpm in 6th as far as I’ve been told.

my sisters boyfriend has a vette and he gets 32mpg on the highway according to his real-time gas consumption bullshit in the car and thats a heavier and less aerodynamic car (believe it or not)

john i cant believe you kept this a secret from us this whole time!

btw ahmed it’s a borg warner/tremec not a getrag

I knew :stuck_out_tongue:

You better not have. If you did, I know who I can’t trust with this sort of info in my future endeavors.

Holy Crap there are a lot of dumb ass people here
