Whats the Truth about Reservation gas? Not what you've heard!

I am not looking for what you have heard! I live in akron and have the reservation about 5 minutes away. I am curious to know the actual truth about the gas at the locations near jans smokeshop.

Again, please dont spam the thread up with things you have heard, please keep it known facts.

Seems like there have been more regulations going on at there gas station in order to keep receiving the gas they are buying.

I know there was another thread on this but it was back in 06, so I’d like to see if their is any new updates on this situation and what the word it.

i dont care what articles say about the gas from the res, let me tell you a story

few years back a friend had a brand new RX-8(maybe 2 months old or so) he filled up at the res, next day the car is dead…will not start

took it in to mazda, thinking it was something wrong with it. mazda took the engine apart and found it full of mud, yea, mud. the gas tank had a ton of mud in it as well…

last time i put res gas in my cars right there

Yeah… saw that one on the other thread and remember you telling me that. But that was back in 06… wondering if they have made any changes or regulations before bringing gas to them… I know they were showing signs on the pumps saying they were starting something as of a certain date, cant remember exactly what it was. iirc it was quality of gas.

Back in '05, when I was commuting between Lockport and Pittsford every day, I got res gas quite often. I was driving an old POS Cavalier at the time. Started having to replace fuel lines…not surprising given the year of the car, so I’m not saying that the gas caused the line problems, but whenever I replaced or repaired lines, my whole shop would reek of a diesel fuel smell. Seriously, it would never smell like gas.

the gas itself wasn’t the problem, it was the tanks that the mud was seeping into, either way, i will never trust it

and i’ll slap you if you put res gas in the s2k

I would never with the s2k. just wondering for other reasons.

I did a job for the owner of a gas station on the res. He had a lot of pride in his station. When I asked what company the fuel was purchased from he said “now I can’t tell you that”. I replied with then you will not get my business. He was not bothered by the conversation and I changed the topic back to DirecTV. I have never purchased gas from the res. It does not make sense for me to do so because the savings does not justify my time and extra expense to drive out there to get gas.

I can tell you for sure, that they, and a lot of other “non res” stations get their fuel from the same refinery in Warren, PA. It’s not the fuel itself. It’s what the stations put in the fuel or dont put in the fuel that matters, as well as their tank maint.

I was guessing its lack of care with maintaining there Fuel tanks.

I personally know a guy that has dumped random chemicals into gas tanks on the res while working there. While these substances where supposed to be flammable I don’t know that I’d want them burning in a nice car.

when i was going to NCCC i put the res gas in my car (celica GTS) all the time ( i was driving 130 miles a day…) and i never had a problem with it. i had to put in 93…but im not sure that makes too much of a diff in this subject.

My parents + sister also use res gas b/c they work right by the station, and they’ve never had a problem with it. if i lived by the res still, id use it.

The thing with reservation gas is that their pumps and tanks are not monitored by NYS or the govt. So they rarely get serviced and rarely, if ever, get checked.

The gasoline is the same gasoline that is in the tanks at any other station. They get the same gas we all do, they just have no regulations from NYS on their tanks. If they have any regulations its probably from the goodness of their hearts to keep clean gas and promote good business.

My advice would be just go to a reservation station that you know for a fact was recently built. Older stations probably have heavily used, old and run down tanks.

this is correct. I know from working at a gas station that it is possible to put stuff directly into the tank from the surface if you have the right keys.

tank maintenance, inspection and lack of regulation is probably the key here.

This pretty much sums it up. They are buying gas, not making it themselves. So as far as tank maintenance goes, I probably just wouldn’t go to a complete piece of shit station. I used to use res gas a lot when I was driving past their stations. Never had a problem.

Don’t be so naive. I worked at a gas station in Orchard Park and anyone could have put anything into the tanks. They never used keys.

I always figured I was getting ripped off from the res in that they weren’t certified by Erie County Weights and Measures.

My um 1/2 or step grandma owns one of the stations there and this is 100% true.
where in akron do you live?

I used to work at a place that was owned by the same owners as Signals on rt 20, we were displaced to a new work location so for compensation we got gas vouchers, a girl I worked with had her car break down, her mechanic presented her with a glass jar of sediment he claimed was in her tank and fuel lines…
she claimed the tank had been replaced a few months earlier and the only place she had been getting gas was from Signals

my rents use the gas station next to jans all the time with no problems…I will never use it again after getting some 93 out by NCCC. just put a few gallons in and immeadiately after i pulled out not even under half throttle the car pinged like crazy. Limped it to Delta Sonic and put a few gallons of 100 octane in it and it cleared right up.

I believe the gas that is delivered is the same as anywhere else, but as mentioned above, I don’t think they have tank maintainence regulations like other stations so who knows.

I love when stupid fucks drive out there in their 8mpg trucks to fill up and save. While you’re there, don’t forget your cheap smokes too fuck stick

I filled up my old f150 at the Seneca Hawk on Rt 5 in Irving a few years back. This was after a strong rain. The truck got home barely and was sputtering, the plugs were wet. A new set of plugs solved the problem, but those tanks aren’t maintained the best. I bet there will be no problem with Smokin Joes because they sell a ton of gas, but the smaller ones that aren’t so busy I would stay away from.

Yeah that’s all it is, the no maintenance part.

I worked at Totem Pole and I used their gas for years. The owners use that gas in their Lamborghini, their AMGs, and their Escalades. I ran nothing but OFfroad diesel in my pig with no problems. My V10 was run strictly on Rez gas with no problems.

We need an Akron meet!
