Brendan, if we ever manage to meet up, take mine out. I have yet to hear from anyone (whether they own an sr, ka or rb25) that the car is slow. The one dude with an rb25 in his hatch said “fuck me, why doesn’t my car feel this fun?”
I dunno man, with mods and the higher rev limit, what’s not to like? I like SR’s, truly do, they’re wicked motors. I love rb25’s too, I just don’t find em as fun. I kinda get the feeling that they’re lazy motors. Pretty anti climatic.
I don’t feel the 20 as gutless, but I do love the fact that the higher it climbs, the more fun it gets. Its fun from the bottom up. Seriously though, I’m almost 100 percent that you taking my car down the drag strip or the circuit may change your mind. I’m headed to cayiga on friday to the drag strip if you wanna!
hmm i was only asking because a couple of years ago the whole thing was that, RBs were super high maintnance, everyone has problems with getting them to run, swap/wiring was a bitch etc… i guess i haven’t been keeping up…
and rb20’s are wicked good motors. worst part i found, was the wiring. but once you figure that out, piece of cake.
plus, lord forbid you should ever blow it up, just pick up another one for 1200, and you get a spare tranny and computer, lol. the tranny you could sell to s15lt1, he’s always looking for them.
I haven’t been following the whole time, but I just skimmed the whole thread.
Not that I’ve ever driven an RB20 or 25 powered car, but it seems like you have to decide where you want to go with the motor first Kollo.
If you plan on keeping it in stock form, then the decision may be weighted more by your finances at time of purchase, and what you have saved.
If you plan on upgrading, the extra $1500 or $2k that you’d spend on the initial RB25 setup is a sweet turbo and injector upgrade on the 20.
I don’t want to sound like a cock, but I haven’t really driven a (summer) car with less than 300-350HP in the last couple of years (My cars and my friends cars), so I’d personally be inclined to upgrade whatever motorset that I went with. Then again, for those that choose to stay stock or stockish, go for it, you won’t end up breaking things and mindlessly upgrading for more power as much as someone who chose the other path.
The SR is not a bad motor, and it makes good power with decent upgrades, I’m sure the RB motors are the same. First you have to decide where you’re headed with the build, then you’ll be able to make a better engine choice to suit your needs.
^ tru dat i hate sr20`s tho i think im going with a rb20 and a bigger turbo and injectors and aim for around 250-300 area rather then do the rb25 and have no mooniez left for a while lol
The thing is I can pull on damn near everyone all day with an RB25. Z’s and G35’s easy. BMW’s easy, Boxster’s for fun. I pulled on a GTR from Jersey 2 weeks ago. Sometimes I get bored and pull on expensive cars for fun. All stock. It’s fun, but The hp bug will bite you in the ass and leave you craving more regardless of setup. I think that is where the RB20 wins.
I still haven’t been in an SR car. All I know is RB and KA lol. I think RB’s ruined me. They feel amazing above 300hp. The torque is phenomenal, I can’t imagine having something less. RB20 or 25, eitheir way you will fall in love. I can’t stop rambling ffs.
i know i know but i have a DD fwd 220+hp car and i just dont use the power i just want it there for emergencies and track days so i figure 1500 on rb20 plus 1700-2000 for bigger turbo,HG,injectors should be able to make 280area with ease all for around 3200-3500 compared to 2500 for rb25 alone with 250hp area so its a tought desicion but i also love the higher revs and after hearing ronnies car im in love with the rb20`s
From what I’ve read the cost isn’t worth the .5 displacement difference. The rb20 takes a lot more abuse as well and is pretty powerful. If you want serious power go rb25 but if not 20 should do ya.I plan on staying with the 20 for a long time.
I hate having a cat. I want my gutted cat back lol. I hear my exhaust pop nice and loud on hard shifts, shooting a nice flame, only to be denied by the cat. My RB is just trying to flex a little, but the cat always censors the jackshow.
