Where to learn how to paint cars

autobody101.com forums

I painted the engine bay, interior and inside the trunk and im going to do the outside once I get the bodywork done.

its really not that hard just dont skip any of the prep steps and take your time while paying alot of attention to detail.

If you are going to do it in a garage like me, make sure you have ALOT of lighting, its like painting in the dark without it

It isn’t that hard (to learn). What is hard is having an appropriate space to paint in, once the dust is in the paint, it isn’t coming out.

my garage is newer, and not dusty at all… i can take teh steps to prep the garage to turn it into a decent paint booth…

as far as neighbors, i only have one… i sit on a corner lot, so i dont really care.

I guess ill be picking up a book and some scrap panels and go about it the same way i taught myself how to weld… Im not going to be doing a drastic color change, so it shouldnt be a big deal

Black is an easy color to learn on, silver is the worst.

Wet sanding and buffing is where you can make a good paint job look great

I figured black would be harder and that white would be easiest. hmph

The biggest thing I’d say is to be EXTREMELY careful when wetsanding and buffing. While you can take care of a lot of blemishes during this process it is VERY easy to burn right through the paint… ESP on corners/edges.

black is hard because if your prep work isnt perfect it will show easily
