this isnt hard to achieve.
I think I’d rather be able to replace a bulb than an entire tv, but go on.
1080P looks like crap on a 73" up close. You’ll need to sit like 20-30’ away for a decent picture.
like 5 years ago my bro in law bought one, one week later the bulb went.
so have fun with the BRA!
Some of the Kuro technology goodies was actually purchased by Sharp. Panasonic was in the works IIRC but never actually go the patents from Pioneer. It has been confirmed at least not anytime soon if ever Panasonic will be using Kuro technology.
DLP TV’s are great for the Size/Price standpoint. DLP’s actually look great, but a few things to consider.
-Viewing angles are limiting: Its not as bad as people make it out to be, if your sitting around it, its generally fine, but if your sitting way off to the side the picture will not be as bright/clear.
-Bulb Life: The bulb will need to be replaced ~4000 Hours or so, not to big of a deal depending on how much you watch the TV and how long it is on for, but at 300 bucks a pop if not a little more for the bulb its something to consider.
-Rainbow Effect: Some people are sensitive to this and notice it, basically you may notice a rainbow effect on the screen from the color wheel, its not blatent, its very subtle if you even do notice it, but it bugs some people, but honestly i would not worry about it.
It really depends on how critical you are, if you want a big fucking TV with good quality picture, and dont want to spend upwards of ~1500 bucks, then its the best bang for the buck your going to get…
Think of a DLP like nitrous, not everyone agrees with it, but for the performance vs price standpoint you can’t beat it.
How far are you going to be sitting away from the TV adam? and what were you looking to spend?
Thanks for the info dude!! It’s gonna be downstairs in the new house, trying to make a movie room/cod man cave lol. The room is fairly narrow, but pretty long, I’d say viewing would be 8-12’ away depending where the couch goes. Looking at the new one, price is $1299 for the 73, which is about $3500 cheaper than the 65 LED I’d love to have lol
they got a 3d dlp tv for a pretty good price at ulitmate electronics last time i was there. They will price match it to if you find something they sell for less.
what are you? a fucking computer?
its LED backlit. thats what they generally mean
I just purchased a 55" Vizio XVT553SV for the lady and I’s living room. It’s an LED-LCD 240hz. Went everywhere in the capital region to track it down. After getting the run around from SAMs club who had the best price, I ended up purchasing it from walmart in Saratoga. This tv won Cnet editors choice award for 2010. For my budget it was between this unit or a 60" LG Plasma that had less than half as many features as the Vizio. The LG pq was real nice in the store and I really liked it. Only thing that made me go with the Vizio is the features such as its built in wi-fi and Internet apps like the capability to stream Netflix, vudu, pandora etc. My dad has the top of the line 62" pioneer plasma and I think after watching that it has ruined it for me. Honestly that tv is out of this world And I have yet to see anything to compare to it. But now I’m getting a bit annoyed with the Vizio and I’m considering returning it. It has a setting on it called smooth motion which is supposed to cause less juttering during slow camera pans for example but it makes it even choppier. Also it makes the image appear like a soap opera shot in video instead of film. Ive only watched DVDs so far on it in 1080i but my hd direct tv will be hooked up this week. I turned off the smooth motion and it seemed to work but now it just acts like a normal 60hz LCD tv so I feel that all those features now fell short. Anyone else with a Vizio experience this or have any tips to solve it?
This one is 3D ready as well
UPDATE: I did some research after this post and found out how to fix the problem. Just have to turn off the smooth motion and real cinema effects in the advanced picture settings. But I’m stil not happy with the picture quality compared to a plasma because the picture is still sometimes choppy and laggish. So as long as walmart can refund me than I think I’m going to return this set and buy a 58" samsung plasma from best buy. It’s this samsung: PN58C550G1F. I bought the Vizio about 13 days ago, anyone know walmarts return policy on Tv’s?
I think plasmas look much better, the colors are more natural and vivid.
DLP are still a projection TV so anything but straight on will not look as good. It all depends how the living room or area is setup that you are viewing it at.
Heres the problem with 120hz-240hz-600hz. The TV at its core still functions at 60hz, because well thats what your content is broad casted/streamed in. The refresh rate game is just a marketing gimmick. LCD’s with 120hz-240hz have “smooth motion” effects as well as “judder canceling/real cinema in your case”
With these on, it “adds” frames that are not there to give you a smoother/less choppy picture. This is called the “soap opera effect” some people like it some people dont. Even if you don’t like it but have watched it with it on for awhile, when you turn it off chances are your pissed because now your picture seems laggy/choppy , especially in panning scenes.
Plasmas “600hz” is just a gimmick as well, the plasma is a 60hz set, the reason it gets a 600hz stamp is because of its subfield drive, some dude came up with some math to do with the subfield, it came out to 600hz, and because of the fine line with marketing bullshit/truth with TV’s there allowed to market it as a 600hz TV.
The plasma will not seem any “smoother” than the LCD, but the picture will be clearer and you won’t get as much motion blur due to the phosphors ability to change so quickly.
I could go on and on, its 930, im a little tired… might have missed something, but feel free to keep going… I love these debates.
Yeah well I can’t stand the “soap opera effect”. It makes everything I watch look like a low budget porno. I guess after watching my dads plasma’s I do really enjoy those more than lcd’s. Our living room is always rather dark so glare isn’t a major concern for me. If I were to get the samsung plasma which is 400$ cheaper than the Vizio I just bought, then I could purchase a ps3 too which would then have all the interet apps that the Vizio has. What would you do in my situation?
The C550 is a great looking plasma. I had the 50" model before I bought my C7000. I had issues with my 50"C550, but from what I’ve read with others the picture quality on the 58" is much better and is not plagued by some of the issues the 50" was.
Its an awesome looking TV without a doubt. You will not be dissapointed.
I would get the 550 and the PS3 if I was in your situation. That way you have a great blu ray player built in along with all the internet apps.
As odd as it is, even though the bigger models use the same plasma display panel, the bigger the tv, the better the pq and real world test results seem to be… not sure why
free Daewoo 19" ftw
