Which TV ?

definitely go with the bigger one

If you don’t have a blu-ray player def go with the 50". Even HD satellite is only 720 anyway.

Get HD you cheap ass

Drews tv has ruined all other tvs for me. 240hz FTW!!

I have a 46" samsung. I almost bought a 40" samsung, glad I went bigger. Get the 50".

Just get this and call it a day.

LoL Maybe next year. I have other places to spend my moneys right now.

Plus I think a 50" or 40" in tv in the living room, a 37" in the game room, a 20" in the guest b/r, and 2 - 22" for the comp in my office are enough viewing for now.

Maybe next year I’ll buy a monster for the living room and move all the tvs down a room so I can put the 20" in the garage.

I’m also thinking about building in my pioneer 5.1 into the garage and buying something nice for the living room.

How close will your TV be to your viewing location?

Granted, you said you don’t really care about picture quality, but if it’s closer than 10’ you’ll start to notice the shortcomings of the 720p.

See the attached chart for further info.

Good chart, the tv will definitely be over 10’ away from my couches & chairs.

i got a 42" plasma. insignia. appeared significantly better than the toshiba plasma side to side.

I use it for hockey (gamecenter live) and it’s great quality. The main deciding factor for me was the 600hz refresh rate, as opposed to 60, possibly 120, for lcd tv’s. $550 from bb with 18 month interest free financing.

between those two I’d personally go with the samsung. I hear over and over about toshiba’s lower quality, and I’d prefer the refresh rate for watching sports, etc.

I’m not the most knowledgeable out there though, I’m sure some will chime in that have a lot more to offer than me

600hz subfield frame rate(some plasmas now-a-days) is a bit different then 60/120/240 hz that the LCD’s advertise so don’t get caught up in that crap like the contrast ratios.
IDC how fast your refresh rate is- the processor or brain of the TV is going to make a bigger difference to your eyes then anyhting( comparing LCDS to LCDs and PLASMA to PLASMA) With that being said-if you were chosing between samsung and toshiba only, I would pick the samsung also.

Never really a big fan of toshiba, they have a nasty habit of rebadging stuff as mentioned above.

I think you’ll be happier with the Samsung.

I would go with the Samsung. I have a 42" Samsung plasma and I love it…I could never make myself buy an LCD, the picture quality just didn’t seem up to par in comparison to the plasma/LED sets. Just my opinion though.

LED is LCD.
LED is a misnomer for LED backlit LCD’s- can either be sidelit or backlit.

Unless it’s :awdrifter:OLED:awdrifter:

^I know, but since their is no LED in the question right now I didn’t bother getting into it. Read this back over the summer, was a nice quick explanation for what exactly they are if someone was wondering.

I’d get the plasma.

Everyone is on the nuts of 120/240hz LCDs. 120 and 240hz are improvements to motion, not fixes. If you want good motion, go with the plasma.

My little bro picked up a 42" Samsung plasma 720p a few months back and IS starting to notice burn in when watching sports or playing 360. Most of it is temporary but there are spots that look like smudges on the screen that will not go away.

Depends on the size of the room.

1080P on a 40" is we-todd-did. However, not nearly as retarded as having a 50" TV you sit 6 feet from.

Next criteria would be room lighting.

The room is 20x16 i believe.

As far as lighting, I have a center mounted ceiling fan with dimmer switch. It has 4 or 5 candle lights. I also have two Tiffany lights on my end tables and a recessed light above my fireplace. Room is situated as this crappy paint drawing shows.

I’m going with the 50" plasma. Shouldn’t be a problem in my room correct?

Walter how could I change my lighting to enhance my tv viewing?

Might be a tad big for the room. Seems there is a hallway or door next to the TV’s location. Try setting it at an angle so the couch is some what aligned with the TV.
