I can get both at the same price, but only these two, which would you choose?
The plasma. Bigger is better. 1080p on a 40" is meh.
samsung for sure. they are killing it with tvs right now.
I have a 50" with 720p…1080p tvs have noticeably better picture quality. It’s still awesome though. I would not be able to step down from a 50" TV.
50" with 720p seems pretty bad. The difference b/w that and a 50" with 1080p will be pretty substantial.
Also, what kind of room is this going into? Lots of windows and light? Plasmas have glass screen so if there are windows in front of the TV it’s going to reflect and distract you. Just something else to consider.

I have the 40" Toshiba in my living room. It’s a fantastic tv.
Compared to my brothers 50" 720p LG plasma, the 40" 1080P Toshiba LCD picture quality is better.
Screw plasma unless you enjoy burn in. I’d rather not take that chance. Samsung or Sony is the way to go. LED ftmfw!

Very true…10 years ago. I believe the choices are between the Samsung and a Toshiba. I’d go with the Samsung unless you want to do blu-ray. HD channels broadcast in 1080i and often times 720p looks better than 1080i, IMO. Samsung is also, probably the #1 TV manufacturer in terms of quality.

Don’t get LED unless you want everything to look like British public access. Picture is too good on them, I actually don’t like it.

I’ve had my 50" Samsung 720p plasma for almost 2 years now and love it.
Let me lay out the situation.
I can only get one of these two tv’s. Essentially for free, as a deal I worked out with someone.
So between these two tv’s only, which is better.
At first I thought I’d rather have a 40" with a better picture, but now I’m swaying towards the 50" as I’m not really a stickler on the picture.
Hell I don’t even have a HD Sat box.
This TV will go in my living room which currently has a 37" 720 in it. That will then be placed into my game room or garage depending on what I want to do, but probably game room.
