Who does Autocross?

you rarely see a noob doing anything crazy… they’re generally going over cautious.

it’s people like zong that think they know what they are doing but don’t and hit curbs at ecc

My point exactly. People with experience who think they are more skilled than they are. That’s when accidents happen.

(No offense, Zong - I welcome you to come out and show me your skillz  )

And my point exactly. Just because someone overdrives, it doesn’t mean they’re “experienced but not skilled.” It just means they made a mistake. Skilled and/or experienced drivers are more likely to do that for the reason that I said.

Basically, I’m saying “skilled drivers overdrive too because they’re pushing themselves to squeeze out every last ounce from their car, and that’s why the good drivers make mistakes often.”

I guess our ideas of “mistake” are drastically different.

HAHAAH that silly azn

First time I hit the concrete at speed I lifted off the gas because I thought I got a flat, scared the crap out of me.

soo… when’s the schedule gonna be up?

FLR (Rochester) has been up for a few weeks, as has CNY (Syracuse), GLEN (Ithaca). I don’t know what the hold-up is for WNY (Buffalo), but FLR’s schedule has some of WNY’s events listed in their schedule as OOR (out-of-region).

You can find it at http://www.flr-scca.com

The courses are typically designed pretty darn safe as far as runoff and where potential problems will occur…It’s USUALLY people trying to save a run which is most likely shot by the time they’re in trouble that causes accidents. Many of us are guilty of trying to save something that perhaps we shouldn’t have, only some of us were more lucky than other in terms of curbs and such. I believe I have a highly “accident” prone vehicle (well, for being FWD) as far that goes, but every time I’m out on course, I don’t forget that. As far as my experience goes with car control, I may not be able to get it to go exactly where I want it to go, but I can come close. That goes for when I’m having a good run, or about to spin or just lose it in general. I’d say the courses are designed pretty well if that’s all I’ve needed to do to avoid a wreck.
The only place I don’t push my car is Batavia. And it’s not because I’m afraid of wrecking, I just don’t want to ruin it for the region if/when it happens.

Yeah. Actually, the only time I ever won a class last year (I was indexed novice for all the events but this one, and wound up in the top 3-5 most of the year) was at Cherry Valley go-kart track in CNY. It was a night run, it was a tight track, and it was raining. I drove like a grandmother around some of those turns, and just barely snuck it out.

Go kart tracks can be fun, but they’re awfully hair-raising.

i hope to make it to as many events as i can this summer, i’m still an autocrossing virgin.

EDIT: nevermind, found it

We are running an event there this season. Try not to steal anything.

I was gonna steal the bleachers and set them up in your mom’s bedroom

Planning for an audience the next time you are there?

Schedule is up:

Still slightly tentative, waiting for some final confirmations.

how might one sign up for this? do i just show up May 3rd? i don’t wanna be turned away when that day comes.

You can just show up that day, and as long as you are there before 9:30, you won’t be turned away. You can save yourself some hassle if you register ahead of time (not yet) at wny-scca.com.

thanks dude.

Also, we will have a Road Tire class this year for cars with tires with treadwear rating of 140 and higher. They will all run together in a PAX class.
