Who here can ride wheelies?

LOL do you still have that rad gt video i got you??

also, find a quad, learn to wheelie on that, then find a dirt bike…

I heard that balance point is when the forks are level with the ground?

^theres some good info there, there’s also some misleading stuff there.

deflated tires at 50 mph can cause nasty wobbles.

dont pay attention to what rpm you’re revving too, it will never work if you’re paying attention to holding 8k rpms and dropping the clutch. It should just be a fluid motion rev/slip. A little more each time until you get it where you want to be launch-wise.

unless you’re sitting down, you should be able to see over the top of the bike no problem, unless your like 4 ft 2.

 to rear brake, gear, and working your way up to BP.

This stuff doesn’t happen overnight, people who think it does will end up like this guy. :frowning: RIP

(not that gear would have mattered here).

nah, thats ramone on a 636, hes soo much fun to watch

^^ right, dont deflate it too much, but a little will give you more surface area to balance on. someone has to know a psi starting point, I have no idea.

and when you are starting out its hard to get a feel for it, alright, dis regard the rpm, but start out at a given speed and work around that, that way you are eliminating a variable. what I am saying is dont try one at 30, then 60 then 50. because each speed needs a different amount of pop.

but yes, it definitely has to be fluid, and dont pop it then let go of the throttle, slowly ease off of it a bit or else the front will keep dropping. I banged my nuts a few times learning that…

+1 on learning on something that doesnt matter if you wreck and you can get a feel for the rear brake.

as for the forks, every bike/vehicle will be different. balance point is merely when you dont need to accelerate to keep the front from falling or decelerate to prevent flipping over backwards…

Fork rake angles are different on each bike, therefore I cant imagine that to be true. Not to mention distribution of weight.

ie.

and a seatbelt doesnt always protect you, but its still worth it…

Tire pressure should only be altered for lot wheelies, I dont think people should be dropping below 27 psi to screw around on the highways. (not safe if you go to low)

right i knew it wasnt always, but I heard it some place. I guess it has to be true some time. lol. I think I was trying to say that most of the time ppl can go a lot more backward, you just gotta get the balls to bring the bike up that high

wait, I thought you werent supposed to do wheelies on the street

I miss the spots we had in rochester!

When most people think they are going over the back, they are still most likely another 10 degrees + away from where they need to be… ESPECIALLY when they are starting new…

have a friend video tape you, but remember, when cameras are rolling things are 10x more likely to go wrong… but atleast you’ll be able to sell the video to realTV or something.

I cant wait to be riding… anywhere!

I’ve still never been to the rochester “spot”

I miss the old 490 videos :(… i wish i could have been a part of those. :frowning:

^^^^ digging the controled landings. Most people just slam the front. Pay attention to what willie is doing boys and girls. usually slamming a tired front end can lead to a wobble and faceplant.

Oh and will. Dont forget to “burn the tape”…LMFAO. Awesome video.

Fork seals and cracked frames are expensive, i try to be as gentle as possible.

I cant tell you the number of times I’ve had HORRIBLE hard landings that resulted in my face hitting the windscreen, my nuts hitting the tank, etc etc…

ugh, im getting the itch to be back on my bike :frowning:

there are two, I will pm you googlemaps if you want

no wobble for me I ALWAYS rode with my gpr on 8 or 9, riding a bike without one felt weird, most of the slamming occurred when I was learning first gear pop ups.

8 or 9 is CRAZY stiff… I’m moving to florida in 2-3 weeks so no need to send me the maps, I think i know where they are, just never went there… Always stuck around buffalo…

My damper on the zx-10 feels almost non-existant, my hyper-pro on my 636 did too unless it was cranked.

I only turned it to one or 0 when I was moving it around with my feet like putting it away in the garage. idk i just got used to it. I got into the habit of turning it to 1 for my buddies who didnt have dampers, and at 1 they still noticed that it felt different.

yea, I made the mistake of almost turning into traffic on a friends zx-9 because his was set too high…

I couldnt over correct during a slow maneuver out into traffic. Scary stuff.

i use to date a girl out that way, and ive ripped a few over the bridge going onto grand island. lol the first time i set it down just before the crest… with a tropper sitting at the bottom. luckily he didnt see me.

hah a few oh my bones might disagree with you

first time I wheelied my buddies 06 636 I was like wtf, what is wrong here? the handle bars are flappin all over the place. next time I had to concentrate on keeping it going straight, esp for the landing.

I then figured out how ppl get tank slappers so often. I will never own a bike w/o a damper
