who here doesnt have powersteering?

From what I remember, it’s much easier to turn if you simply cut the lines instead of looping them. Chris Barton did a lot of research on removing power steering and came to that conclusion.

I drove my SHO for a few months without powersteering. It hurt my back so I eventually repaired it because it was impossible to corner hard without PS in that pig (see track day vids from last year).

I don’t have it in my E30, but I do in the E36… I wouldn’t want a car without power steering for my daily.

makes me feel better bout not having it =)

None here fine on the street sucks on the slicks trying to turn them shits.

ditto on the nova for me. It sux!

if you just cut the lines you will ruin your rack, it runs dry
that’s the only purpose of looping the system

Always had power steering, probably always will.

Apparently the Neon rack doesn’t need the lubrication from the PS fluid, from what I remember. I want to say that it was sealed off separately, but it’s been a long time since I did the reading. I understand why people normally loop the lines, but I was trying to help out the OP with a bit of car-specific advice…

you need a little fluid in there on a neon but not so much that it is still forcing it through the valves and making it hard to turn. if i didnt loop the lines, id at least connect hoses to them and route them up higher up in the engine bay so you dont fill the rack with water. clamp some small filters to the ends of them.

my metro doesnt have power steering. there is no issue turning it from a dead stop but it was designed that way.

It was Chris Barnett…not Barton.

Here’s his analysis.

i first ran a ps gearbox in my s10 without the pump just looped the lines…it was a bear to park and turn around and whatnot…i also had put a smaller steering wheel on. i switched to a manual gearbox and it is great. i prefer no powersteering unless its a daily driver.

Don’t have it on the Corolla. Steering is a tad heavy with the wider tires. But overall not an issue.

Hey Mike, i dont have PS on mine

No PS on my '68. It can be a major PITA in crowded low-speed areas, but on the road it’s nice.

No PS in the FD. I removed it 2 years ago and haven’t missed it a bit.
