who is still racing road course?

just wondering. I am going to three different tracks in October in one week. It will be one hell of a test of durability for the trusty SHO. I may be racing the same track for two days and If I decide to do that I will pass on the third track (gingerman) but three track events in one week will be a hell of a lot of stress on the old girl. Just wondering who is still out racing this summer with dunville shut down. I was a bit surprised that nobody went to gingerman with me in june. The new addition to the track really made the track a blast to drive.

I have a race in September and possibly 2 in October. Watkins Glen, NJMP, Watkins Glen.

I think ^^ he is the one of the few doing actual competitive events/racing. Jeremy is obviously doing the lemons stuff.

Are you just doing lapping days? Gingerman seems like a nice track but it seems awfully far away being on the other side of MI. What other tracks are you planning on going to?

summit point ftw

Scratch one of those WGI weekends. SCCA doesn’t care for my Rookie NASA license. Maybe next season…

Yes these are just lapping days. I am going to Road America, and Black Hawk Farms end of oct. I am going to both the same week and staying at a friends house. We are deciding on going to a Gingerman day too the same week. I will be bringing extra brakes and tires, because it is going to be a rough week on the car. I don’t race competitively. I would love to get into it but I don’t think a 20 year old Taurus will hold up well compared to what else is out there. The new extension at Gingerman really makes that track a absolute blast. In Just we were the first run group to get to race on it, and it really changed my perception of the track.

I would like to run open track or try Time Attack, but didnt feel like coughing up the dough this year, Onyx made the experience nice and cheap

he certainly did… it is going to cost me out the ass for these other events. there was nothing like paying 50 or 75 or what ever it was to go out and pound on the car for a few hours. this driving 6+ hours and hoping you don’t break is sketchy business.

Until you are ready to come home from the track empty handed, you aren’t ready for road racing. DE/Open lapping is a different story, I’d still prefer to have a truck and trailer. Just in case…

You must know someone in MI/WI area, otherwise I see know reason for traveling 6+ hours to go to these tracks for lapping days. There are better tracks within a much short distance that offer lapping days.

I do know someone. his user name is 87crx I think. he rand at a few dunville events before he moved away. we have a bit of a competition between our two cars and it is fun to try to best each other. in June my car destroyed his S4 in the corners but he has a LOT more power than me since he is running nearly 20psi. But even with all that extra power he was only slightly faster than me. So his fix was to buy coilovers and R comp rubber. So my move is to change to a lighter hood, a newer subframe with vastly improved geometry install a blower and get stickier R comps and install my 13" brakes again and see how it does… Oh that and the engine has some goodes done to it that will let it rev higher and make better power all over the power band. larger radiator and oil cooler are on the to do list also.

We’re trying to do a short 6 hr race @ Beaver Run, also looks like there is going to be parade laps, hot laps, and instructor rides, flahlight drags, drifting, but everything seems to be poorly organized: http://www.festivalofspeedatbeaverun.com/

Gingerman Oct. 8th~10th, really looking forward to turn 11, could care less about the longer back straight.

We have a really stupid idea of running 24 HORAS DE CUBA DEL NORTE 2010; Palm Beach International Raceway, Jupiter FL starts at midnight Dec 31 and goes until the ball drops.

Really?

TWICE.

never mind turn 11 turns 8,9,10 are where its at with the new addition. I managed to hold a insane drift through all 3 turns at full opposite lock wide open throttle. it was not on purpose the first time but the second time I tried it I got kicked off the track for the rest of my session for “wreckless driving” I could not argue the point but it sure was fun.

The SHO does pretty well with a few suspension mods but I can’t risk this particular one to a trackday with a high probability it will be destroyed. 11.6" brake upgrade fresh oil and decent tires is about all a SHO needs to race. currently My engine is at napa undergoing some service and I will not have the car running till mid oct so that gingerman day is out.

Here is more detailed information on what we are considering for mid-October.

We are looking at Sat. Oct. 16th. Cost should be $165/car; could vary based upon anticipated attendance but that’s what we’re shooting for.

If you would be able to attend this please let me know and we will get it locked in and begin asking for deposits, etc.

this is a gingerman day if you want more info I can get it for you. I got more track time than my car could handle last time I went out with them.

I drove a lapping day at TMP yesterday. Open track 9 to 5 with 11 cars there throughout the day. When I got there 4 cars were on track, but that never happened again. I was either out there alone or with 1-2 other cars and could go out and come in whenever I wanted. We had a relaxed long lunch and ended up calling it a day at 4 PM rather than wishing for more track time. The weather was perfect and the track has safe runoff on almost every turn so it was great for pushing the car without worry of balling it up.

Mike, Any lap times ?

I’ll be at Watkin’s Glen on the 2nd of October. Maybe the 7th/8th too if I can takes time off from work.

I wish I could have made it.

I was back at TMP Sunday and my balls are getting bigger. I hope the fans standing at the wall enjoyed this.

I’ve only run the car three times so we’re still making big jumps in performance every time out and lap times are coming down quickly.

I’ll be there this weekend too! Garage 19A in the Monster SpecE30. First experience with W2W racing, should be exciting.

You going to the Glen the 11th/12th? A bunch of us are going.
