Who knows about B6 S4's??

I’ve been thinking about S4’s quite a bit lately but I don’t know too much about them other than they are hot and have Quattro.

My interest would be in an 03-05 S4 Avant with a 6 speed manual. How troublesome are these cars? I know the 4.2 V8 is pretty widely used. Are there any issues common to them? This would be for daily driving duties (to and from work and getting groceries)

I could definitely see myself rocking something like this.

my grandpa had one and liked his B5 S4 TT that was apr tuned better, but my guess is the B6 would be more reliable

My next car will be a B6 or B7. I love the B5 and it is a lot more fun to drive than the newer ones. Also the B5 aftermarket is huge and coming down in price. But on the other hand a B6 or B7 will still be a lot of fun to drive and be way more reliable, and they have no real common problems. I would definitely recommend it.

this will probably be my next move after the gti…

that or an allroad :]

Are there any good Audi forums? I found a couple but they were kind of lame.

audizine and fourtitude are probably your best bet.

anything about the scene involving these will be lame, but the tech section should be pretty solid. especially on fourtitude.

If you’re serious about wanting a grey B6 S4 avant, I have a customer who may be selling his. I’ve done a few mods to it:

  • Milltek cats/downpipes
  • Milltek resonated cat-back
  • O.CT chip
  • Hypershift short-shifter
  • Hyperflow intake

I’ve also got other sources for these cars if you’re interested.

i was on audiworld all the time back when I had my B5

Beautiful car, gorgeous interior.

04/05 B6 s4 avants will run you $27k-35k depending on condition, mileage, CPO, etc.

From what I’ve researched, stay away from the early 04 models (pre 10-03 build date) as they seem to have more issues.

Even if it is an extra couple grand, I recommend getting a CPO’ed car that will cover you until 100k miles. The peace of mind is worth the money when owning a 4.2 audi.

Good luck in your search.

Yeah I have heard to stay away from the pre 10/03 cars.

I’m just doing a little research on the cars right now. I won’t be ready to buy for a little while.

Too bad this isn’t an Avant…still quite hot though.

what kind of mods are out there for this engine? cams, headers?

As far as I can tell the mods mentioned by bracketracer are about it.

Superchargers for these cars are big $$$$. I am not aware of any headers out there either.

avant = very hot, would probably make a great dd too, get one

order I would buy parts.

fucking $26,385.33 for that kit!!!

edit: there isn’t crap out for this engine this blows.

Yep, pretty much everything that’s available in-country anyway.

And, in my mind, the blower kit is stupid money. My customer with the 04 avant inquired about it, and has the scratch to afford it, but I flat out told him it wasn’t worth it.

500 ftlb for almost the entire powerband and 4.8 0-60. It would be a amazing car to drive. If i had a shit ton of money I would do it, but then again I made a taurus fast.

Agreed, but if you’ve got the money to throw away on something you’d never see a return on, then you might as well buy an RS4 and get some resale value out of it.

good call.

wait a year and you can have mine when I pick up the R8

I’ve been looking around for a while now for a 4.2 b6 avant.

I found one in CT, but it sold before I could get down there. :frowning:

The hunt continues.
