i work for CARSTAR Collision Canada in the corporate head office. You may very well see some folks from corporate at the niagara meet because there is a huge need in the industry to bring in young talent and i am saying that there are thousands of young guys into cars that dont know you can make $50k to $100k in a collision center either writing estimates, doing the body work or being the painter…
more importantly, in Alberta you pretty much start at $55k - $75k if you know what you are doing.
Of course in Ontario you dont start there, but it’s way better than working at Canadian Tire, Parts Source, Tim Horton’s, Best Buy or whatever other $8 - $12 an hour jobs some of you guys are working at…
I dont imagine there are too many senior techs here, but if you have experience in auto-body and are looking for work, either entry level or mid level technicians, estimators / damage appraisers, painters etc. i want your resume and i want you to tell me where you want to work… use the store locator at www.carstar.ca
There are 123+ CARSTAR’s in Canada and over 60 in Ontario. Most of them are the leaders in their respective markets… and i am only interested in putting guys into the better stores where you’ll get paid more, get trained better and make me look good.
The sooner i take a dozen guys from the internet and get them hired at the stores the sooner i can start getting some money out of our marketing dept. to throw into motorsports in Ontario… so get on it.
I should also say that i know young guys under 26 with college educations from georgian or elsewhere that are already managing stores, writing estimates, apprentice technicians or painters that are making anywhere from $15 - $25 an hour in Ontario right now… there are painters in the GTA making more than $100k and there are estimators making more than $60k raising families and buying homes writing estimates on accident vehicles.
frig, i know that 95% of you guys can do this, i could learn it inside out in a month and turn that shit inside out and i am sure a bunch of you could do the same but dont know it’s out there and are working in shit jobs for shit money right now.
Hmm, theres a couple near me…both North York and Etobicoke locations seem pretty justifyed.
I’ve already worked in at a body shop and somewhat still do…1.5 years at CFD Custom Design ( The shop RIGHT beside gabe at Japanese Imports).
What kind of demand are you in need of? I did most of the prep work at the shop, and taping before it went in for paint. I’ve painted a couple full cars, and would more than likely, want to start painting rather than the prep work.
I worked at a Canadian Tire for 3 years: 1 year in the parts departement and 1.5 years in the garage at the counter. I got plenty of experience writing up work orders and stuff like that.
There is a CarStar store right near my house 5055 Pare street in Montreal.
I do not want to get into putting random resumes for people who have no experience into the system just yet… eventually when the process is easier i will do that.
right now i have to take the resume and be pretty involved to make sure it gets where it’s supposed to go and i really dont feel like doing that long term… i have nothing to do with HR, i manage our largest insurance accounts.
I am doing this to prove a point, not because i love you all… well, not just because of that…

to all the guys that have some auto-experience, update your resumes and you can send them to me.
e-mail bwong at carstar.ca
don’t expect me to chase you or edit your resumes or talk to the store before you send me your resume… just spell-check it, tailor it for automotive and send it.
Jonathan, i will be at the Pare location at the end of the month and will be talking with the ownership of the shop in the coming weeks. i will ask them if they need someone, one of our corporate guys in quebec is a partner in the Pare store so i can get a good answer from him.
Quebec is a huge growth market for us and i have big plans out there so yes… get your resume together.
I know of 3 ppl who have left for calgary in the past year. all have returned with their heads down. I even know of an entire family that sold their house and left for the calgarian dream of 20/hr fast food jobs and 50+/hr skill/trade jobs. they have since moved back and now live in a tiny apt. only successful prson I know is a buddy of mine that works for Dufferin construction. they sent him out there for a month last summer. he made a ton of money but only because its the largest major construction company in noth america and they pay for absolutly everything, including his hotel, a company truck, gas card and a 40 dollar per day meal allowance on top of his 35/hr (420/day) out of province pay. that’s the only way id be leaving my life behind lol
I have many friends who have gone out there to be drill hands, or health and safety / rescue type stuff.
I have buddies younger than me that are earning well into 6 figures and others slightly less and others still that didnt make it work.
regardless of success or not, it’s no way to live… Fort Mac is a terrible place to be.
anyways…
please do not e-mail just telling me you are interested…
change up your resume as if you are applying for an automotive related job.
if you have no experience of are pretty young then you will likely have to start as a prepper / detailer. If you note that you want to get into light body repair and be a parts changer or the prepper who also does tear downs for the estimator then you will have a better shot at some extra bucks.
if you do have some automotive experience, in auto in particular, then make sure you note it and just e-mail me the resume to the address listed above.
thanks for the resumes guys, i put through several this week already. I had a lunch meeting with our largest franchisee and he wants me to forward some directly to him in the Mississuaga area…
