Okay, here’s what I know: the '03-'04 Zs are known to suffer from this problem where the inside of the front tires wear out WAY too quickly. Nissan offered free servicing of the front suspension (I believe the toe settings were off, no?) and replacement of the front tires.
Now that Zs are becoming reasonablt on the used car market, where does that leave those of us who buy them used outside of their warranty period? Yes, we could pay for the service, but if we’ve already got an eye towards modification of the suspension, is it necessary?
I’ve heard that adding the Nismo S-tune suspension takes care of the problem altogether. Is this true? If so, what about other aftermarket suspensions? Can anyone shed some light on this for me, and possibly other new owners of older Z33s?
I’ve never had tire feathering so I can’t really tell much. But just like you, I have heard from other people’s feed back saying that S-tune suspension can get rid of tire feathering and suspension bounce on the highway. I think any suspension modification with alignment will fix tire feathering, I believe it’s just a design with the stock suspension geometry…
As for warrenty… Previous owner for my car purchased extended warrenty for total of 4 years (or was it 6? can’t recall) so mine wont expire til 2008. I remember reading that even if you are out of warrenty, you can still purchase extended warrenty from one of those warrenty companies… I recommend that you do… I’m getting a new transmission after this saturday’s drift event 45444
How can you get an extended warranty from a warranty “company?” Dodge wanted to sell me a 2 year, 40k warranty when I bought the car, which I would have considered, but for 1900 bucks, I said “forget it!”
haha, considering the dodge probably won’t be worth $1900 after two years
and about the feathering, i believe there was a recall for it, so it might not matter that you have warrenty or not. I’d double check with a dealership about it.
I believe some warrenty companys allow you to buy warranty if it is still fairly new… I was reading something about this a long time ago where warranty companies (not the Nissan dealership ones) can still give out warranty even if the car is 2nd hand. Might want to research on that, my memory’s still vague about this.
