anyone with a PhD or MD

Stems from a discussion this weekend
So a librarian could be a Doctor?
Really?
MEDICAL doctor!
They have doctrines?
lol, this thread makes a bit more sense. Anyone with a DOCTRINE is technically a doctor, no?
all of the above
they are all 8 year programs
Anyone with a PhD and practicing medicine (or retired for technicality’s sake).
All.
See the discussion was whether a dentist is a doctor, which he is, but however it was argued that there are different levels of doctor. Such that a dentist was not ‘really’ a doctor, and that only doctors have MD’s.
PhD’s were also not ‘really’ doctors, and only were called Dr due to arrogance of said person…
And it was also brought up what other people might think about this subject. Rather lengthy i might say.
Well technically, you don’t need to be practicing medicine to be a doctor. There are doctors in many fields.
I see what you mean. I personally will only call a physician, or surgeon a “doctor”. I refer to the others by what their title is. I.e. Vet, Dentist, etc… Although, they are all doctors.
I was thinking about getting an online doctorate in finance just because work would pay for it and I could do it in the office, solely for the purpose of making people call me Dr.
I think people with their MBA should be referred to as “Master.”
Personally, a MD is obviously a doctor, as is is a Dentist. But, do people consider their dentist a doctor? They should.
A PhD is a doctor, and can be called doctor if they wish. But is not the same as a ‘medical’ doctor. However should be treated with the same respect.
Chiropractor, not really a doctor. Self proclaimed.
Vet - somewhere in the middle, probably a doctor.
Ummm… all of them? This is the dumbest poll ever.
You should have put “IT Guy” at the bottom so I could have at least excluded a choice.
Ever had back problems? A chiropractor is most certainly a doctor. They don’t just “re-adjust” but actually know a thing or two about medicine. By “self proclaimed” do you mean “Went to school and studied a lot, learned all about the issues and ailments, procedures and methods” because that’s what I thought you meant.
And, “somewhere in the middle” for a Vet? Seriously? Do you even know what a vetrenarian is? They do surgery… they are most certainly doctors. They prescribe medication and know ailments just like a doctor at the hospital. They fix hips, broken bones, etc. Ugh, you suck… for some reason that sentence “in the middle” just tweeked my inner anger.
i’m pretty much the Love Doctor.
