Windows Mobile: Rom flash = reformat?

Yeah so in the process of all my goofing around with my phone over the last couple of days I managed to corrupt my Picsel Browser program. It was a pretty nice program, not available publicly, but came on the i730. I found a couple of hacked copies, but nothing that will successfully install and run.

So I’m thinking I can get it back by downloading the WM5 upgrade file from Verizon and reflashing. Yes?

your not getting the correct hacked copy then, everything is available publicly, just have to know where to look. And it depends if verizon included that in the image of wm5 they supplied.

You probably won’t have to reflash, just do the key combo to wipe the handheld and you will be back to the way it was when you first upgraded to WM5.

It came with WM5 and Picsel Browser out of the box. I just turned it on.

What’s “they key combo to wipe the handheld”?

With my 6700 you had to hold in the reset button and hold down one of the Windows keys. It will be different for different devices. Do a search for the string, “Samsung i730 hard reset”

To perform a Hard Reset (Windows Mobile 5 version Only)

NOTE: This method will reset the PDA memory back to factory defaults

This reset is a FULL reset, which will erase all files stored on the phone, including resetting the device back to factory defaults.

While at the Today screen or phone’s standby screen, press and Hold down the top left menu button while pressing the slider down
While performing the above, press the reset button located on the bottom left of the phone
Release the slider button after pressing the reset button, but continue to hold down the top left menu button
You will see a message “Formatting Root”, let the process run without disturbing the phone
When the device finishes its boot process, a Windows Mobile screen will instruct you to “Tap the screen to set up your Pocket PC.”

Etc, etc…

I’ve hard rest my 6700 a handful of times now… but sprint =! Verizon, nor does Ustar = Samsung I suppose.

Sho 'nuff. Had to give my phone the shocker but it worked. I didn’t know that a “hard reset” was basically reformatting it. I thought it was like a soft reset only, you know, harder.

:uhh:

:noob:

:engineer:

this thread is quickly turning gay… Nice!

wm5? jeepers who even does that anymore? where is your cassette collection? lol. did the hard reset work?

There are more WM5 devices than 6 out there right now.

Yep. I’m an old school desktop guy. I didn’t know that “hard reset” = auto-reformat.
