Who all has a winter driven 240 with an Sr? Is it a big deal to drive it in the winter with all the salt and the possibility of the intercooler piping rusting out? Just wondering if its something to worry about or not.
2nd winter with it now…i wouldnt worry about things like that
Thanks ^^
I also forgot to mention that the intercooler is aftermarket with aluminum piping…if it matters
How do they handle -20? No troubles?
Ive had problems starting once this winter, our big storm on christmas, I let her sit for 4 days, on the fifth it didnt want to start…
This morning -21 slow to start but first time…in all not too bad.
Yeah starting is more directly related to the battery so that’s expected. I was just thinkin whether or not there would be any longterm adverse effects to running it in such cold temps. My thoughts arose mainly cuz I was thinking that the markets it was developed for never see such temps. Then again, europeans get the SR in the s14… sooo I guess it was foolish of me to worry about it.
Still wouldnt worry ill be doing thats too, it can all be replaced i guess…but i dont think it wil have too much effect on the piping and such
I just dont want the pipes to rust to shlt…thats my issue
lol, what pipes? get aluminum or stainless steel pipes then, any mild steel will rust.
i am drivign it in the winta… starts good…
VERY FAST when the -20 hits the FMIC… WOOT WOOT…
but my car is still slow

intercooler pipes…read my initial post
and i was under the impression that aluminum rusts as well…which was the reason for starting this thread to see if other people are running the pipes in the winter without any rusting issues.
Thanks for the reply
Aluminum CAN rust, but when it does, it forms a white film, as opposed to the brown colour of rust we find on the bodies of the car. I wouldnt worry about it, if you had cracks and easily accessable spots where salt can remain, then it would be a problem, but that would need to happen every winter for quite a few years.
lol aluminum doenst rust it corrodes. you have nothing to worry about, keep the aluminum polished and it’ll be fine.
My car is ghey.
Stupid bitch won’t start until like a million cranks.
Slut.
Today she wouldn’t turn over at all. Just a million friggin’ cranks.
Whore.
Any solutions? Magnetic block heaters don’t work due to the aluminum block and I don’t feel like climbing underneath to stick it on the oil pan.
my GTR likes the cold
runs at a consisten 70-75 Celcius even when boosting all the time
cold = less risk of detonation = more boost
I’ve had no issue with mine…
I have more issues with slick roads, Kaaz 2-way and 10 pounds of boost.
Mine starts no problem at all.
But now I have this electrical problem and realised today the my Greddy Type S BOV is leaking!!!
Im not having good luck this winter at all!
My car is runnin amazing… lemmie tell ya, puttin the battery in the trunk makes a huuuuuge diff… Starts like a champ everytime… -25 no problem!
Only thing I’m not sure about is that whenever I’m on the highway, my engine temp needle is sitting below the C still… as soon as I’m drivin in town in stop and go it heats up, the the hwy air flow seems to keep it a little TOO cold. Think it’s anythingn to worry about, or maybe the sensor is easily affected? I don’t wanna be puttin boost on when the engine is cold… Don’t wanna crack anything!
Also my boost goes from 9psi to 11 on those really cold days!

I don’t get it?
Why would the SR be any different from any other engine in the world?
It’s not like in Japan they don’t see -20 weather?
the SR is only used in the JGTC. its a supreme racing engine. It doesnt like being run in the super cold as its finely tuned to run in super races only. It never came from the factory in any cars, only built by nissans super team to race.
