winter driving? spec V

well after the first day of snow i feel like it would be in my best interest to pick up winter tires quickly.
that said i have driven worse cars in the snow than this, and i still seem to do better than half (ok 99%) of edmonton. just exercise some thought and it isn’t totally bad

lol ok… Well my tires went on today. Sat night was so bad driving on those conti’s…

LOL i woke up sat mornin before work and swapped my winters on in 20 min, there was no way i was even going to attempt to drive with my summers LOL.

didnt get to the splash guards on tho. Really need them on soon, im collecting alot of salt and shit!

Yeah, I just got mine from Calgary Today. Kumho KW17s. Not quite the right size at 205/50/17’s, but they’ll still work. I wanted narrower than 215 tires so they’ll cut through the snow nicely. I’m curious to see how the 50 aspect ratio changes my speedo rating as it will change the overall diameter of my wheel/tire package.

Or at least, that’s what I’ll tell the cop! :E

miata tire calc it…

NICE! That’s a handy tool!

Apparently the size difference will make my speedo read about 2% too low. At 60 MPH it will actually be travelling at 61.1. Big whoop.

Wont it also throw off your odometer too?

I/m runnen on All Seasons and did fine on the ice. I went thru whole winter last year with em too. Only had problems when we had the dump in feburary.

Good question. I’m not going to put significant enough mileage on it to worry about, but I guess I could test it out on the highway with those odometer testing sections.

post the pics of the spec v all ready for the winter…

heres mine…winter ready…

Wow that is a lot of salt.

Those mud flaps don’t look like they are doing their job.

thats after 1 day of driving, and those tires shoot up alot of stuff.

  • i waxed the car really well so it should help to protect against the harsh salt on the roads…

Did you carnot come with stock rear mud flaps?

aparently not… so i got some at can tire for 20$ for all 4. i just have to adjust them so they cover the wheel more.

Mounted my winters today - WHAT A DIFFERENCE!

The car no longer feels remotely dangerous. It’s pretty obvious that even with the supposedly sporty nature of the Kumho KW17’s, you won’t be driving the wheels off the thing without hitting some curbs, but what a relief to actually drive my spec 5 again. Although, I’ve spent the week in my mom’s loaded Murano and now I want one very badly. :E

You can get Murano’s pretty cheap out of the East… Might not last to long but it looks cool driving around in for 6 months

I’d be inclided to build an track murano since its an considered a “cross over” and not an SUV. But I dont think I could bring it to the events… the whole suv thing

There are a few Nismo parts for the Murano, but suspension stuff isn’t amongst them. Ultimately you have two problems with a track Murano: 1) The sheer weight of it, and 2) the CVT tranny really sucks ass for performance driving, because every time you take your foot off the throttle the revs drop off, which leads to way less engine braking than I would like. That said, the brakes are unbelievably strong for stock pieces!

Stop drinking Kris… The center of gravity is way to high. But then again
