Awesome.
Cant wait to have some fun. Last year was a drag with the sport all seasons. Was not making that mistake again. Also I’m about another 1" lower.
Winter is the best time of the year to have your car out in Houston. Trying to get some cash together to finish some projects and then some more :snky:
The truck isn’t 4WD and I’ve noticed that it likes to get slideways in the rain (hehehe…) so I definitely think I’ll need weight back there.
Just put the snows on the X5M. Thing is a blast in the snow.
I turned my MTRs w/ kevlar into ultimate snow tires with my siping machine. I’ll be that asshole driving around over medians around stuck drivers when the first bad storm comes.
^pics of the tires.
Both vehicles are relatively ready; tires are good on both. Both need to be taken in for a GOOD detail/wax before the snow really flies.
Truck needs a couple boards/rack put in the bed, and the winter survival kit thrown in it before I head up the canyons to the resorts though. I’ve got about 2.5 weeks until that happens; the resorts out here are already starting to announce opening days.
Rocking an e36 this winter for the first time in 6 years. Also first time rolling on snows.
Haven’t put the snows on the truck yet. Probably won’t till December. Need to put some screw tires together for ice racing the M3, but I’m going to Virginia with it in December, so I’ll probably just take snows with me in case it decides to dust us I can mount them up and build the screw tires after I get home.
Are planning on running with the CNY group or the AMEC guys? I would like to come out and see the event to get a better feel for how they run things and etc…
The last time I went was with AMEC. It’s been several years since I last ran with them and my car is probably classed against dirt midgets or something absurd but ill have fun with it. I’d be open to going to a CNY event if there was something you had in mind.
I am interested in checking out the CNY group if they can indeed get some ice this year… as the past two years have not been good for them and from the looks of it they have run a more “rallycross” type event on frozen dirt/snow. As we get colder here I will see if I can get a schedule of events, I don’t know that I would run my daily, but would like to check out the event to see if its possible and get an idea of the classes to see if this is something I would want to get into.
Do they allow crossover SUV’s to run? My GTO would be pretty useless but I might check it out if I could take some laps in the wife’s AWD Murano.
Weather still looking ok so going to keep the BMW on the road a few more weeks. Hoping to get to Thanksgiving before they start salting. Only thing I really need before the snow and putting it away is a nice detail to clean the inside and out.
Nonsense, the GTO would be rad!
I’m picturing a lot of ground clearance issues. Plus even with snows it would just take too long to get up to speed on ice. I really don’t feel like making dedicated screw tires just to check this out.
A number of years ago, dmoffitt and I took his lowered twin turbo 350z on regular snows old snows (blizzaks) and had a blast.
GTO would be fine.
Precisely, the tracks are often extremely well groomed and make speed and stability for regular street cars feasible. Maybe on a seasonal road or TSD, but likely not on the ice.
