winter prep tips? best rust proofing?

alright guys, i’m looking to get my car ready for winter so i’m not stuck or my engine doesn’t stall on me…

obviously the important parts…
-check battery
-winter tires
-coolant flush
-diff viscosity oil (what’s best for an rb25det??)

what else should i be looking for??

is KrownLakeShore still the best rust proof??

Krown is crap. It will not stay on your car and it will drip.

OilGard. Trust me. They cost a little more, but it’s worth it.

Yup

yes to oilgard or krown??

I’m sure they’re all roughly the same, but I’ve never heard of OilGuard,

I prefer RustCheck over Krown on my cars. Krown drips more than anything else I’ve ever used…it honestly seems like more ends up on the ground than stuck to the car. It also destroys un-sealed concrete floors like nothing else.

Both drip like crazy. They don’t stay on your car, and they don’t go where they’re supposed to.

I’ve worked in every automotive field except body repair, I can tell you with certainty that OilGard (been around since 1970-something and started in London), sprays the best product. It DOES NOT DRIP. I work there currently (up in SSM, not down in Toronto), and I’ve seen a black vehicle I just sprayed sit in 36*C weather and not drip a single drop of our product. Even before I worked at OilGard, when I was an apprentice tech, I would’ve told you OilGard. They have a better process than the other companies too… I did a G37 that had seen RustChek the year before… 4 holes in each rear door opening, and 4 on each door. We do 1 in the door, and 1 in the door opening if we have to. Plus our stuff stays. Theirs is gone in a year and then you have a perforated car with no protection.

In the end, I don’t care where you go, I’m just looking out for fellow enthusiasts. I’ve seen every imaginable type of undercoating and rustproofing at this shop now. Even if I didn’t spray OilGard currently, I’d recommend it to anyone.

you’ve convinced me,

where can i get this stuff done in the GTA

closest to GTA looks like orangeville…

Krown +1 I have seen a civic sprayed from brand new 10 years ago and yup…looks nice, of course you need it to be sprayed properly everywhere. And the people who complain about it dripping, honestly don’t know how the stuff works. Anyways, I don’t know anyone who hates rust more than me on a car I wanna hardpark…so I would recommend krown.

just my 2 cents and like above I don’t care where you go really haha

p.s I also mean you gotta go everyear (well not really, but I would!)

^ elaborate on the drip myth?

Krown drips like a bitch, and it evaporates off the vehicle. It’s mineral based and does not last. How does the product running off the vehicle mean it’s protecting it? Please explain.

OilGard is a petrolium based atomized product that fogs onto and into the panel. I’ve sprayed rockers and had it come out the opposite end in a haze. The shit gets in EVERYWHERE. I’ve also seen it creep up a door all the way to the top, and I’ve seen vehicles that were sprayed 4 or 5 years back to back, and we can’t keep spraying them. We turn them away because we’d have to hose the shit off to put more on. And I’m confident our winters pwn yours.

As far as the application process, I don’t know what Krown is supposed to do, but I know the shop up here does hack work and puts way more holes than necessary. I’d be pissed if I got my car back with 3 or 4 holes in the door opening, but maybe that’s just me.
