Wisdom reeth removal.

Update:

So I was afraid of the surgery for removal and had my sisters Dentist she works for try to fill it, which involves novacain and a drill. Seemed promising, didn’t have any real pain for a couple weeks, and then it started to feel sensitive and hurt to chew on that side still. So I went to Dr. William Cecere on abbott road in south buffalo. They got me in real quick, he suggested to only remove the one bothering me since I am older and my roots have matured making it more risky to do the surgery.

I had it removed last Thursday with only novacain, I didn’t feel a thing other than him pushing and praying with the tool, he informed me when I would her a cracking sound as he twisted the tool prying on the tooth between my jaw bone. Its definitely a barbaric operation, but then I guess so are most operations. The doctor also found I had a chronic infection between the cavity and molar, so maybe the cavity was repaired ok but I had an infection who knows, he said he had to remove the infection… I’m thinking he just scrapped it out yikes…

The operation was last Thursday, I’ve only taken Ibuprofen 800mg tabs for the pain, overall it wasn’t that painful after, kind of a sore feeling reminding me of when I had braces, but maybe a little more painful/sore. I was eating liquids the first 2 days, and then on the third day I was at a get together with catered food so I couldn’t help myself, and I decided it was only 1 tooth pulled on one side of my face so if I chew only on the good side with small portions I should be ok.

Fast forward to today, the pain still not super bad, it seems still swollen and red, and now I can actually see the hole a little bit with a flash light, but its dark inside which is good assuming the blood clot is still there. I still have to take 3 Ibuprofens everyday with antibiotics, still sore and annoying but not super painful.

I was afraid to take the narcotics I didn’t even fill the prescription, my dad has drug issues so I’m terrified of becoming a drug addict lol, probably sounds silly to people who have taken pain pills post surgery but I felt like I wanted to play it safe. Hopefully it will be healed completely soon so I can eat normally.

You lucked out. I had one pulled a month ago and double doses of Oxycodone every 4 hours made it reasonably manageable.

Did you have a dry socket?

Yeah I’m definitely not in a ton of pain I could probably bare through it with nothing if I wanted to. I actually woke up today with no pain.

No. The dentist broke it off at the gumline trying to pry it out. That was wave #1 . Next day I went to an oral surgeon and he had to pry it out. I think he was just about kneeling on my chest. That’s when the real pain began. Script was for one Oxy every 6 hours. The first one did next to nothing. The second pill, and hour after the first, made the pain manageable. I was doing double Oxy’s for a day and a half, every 3-4 hours. Sore for at least a week and a half.

Damn that sounds crazy. My sister said her dentist will trim the jaw bone around the tooth to help pry out the tooth on a regular tooth.

Was it also a wisdom tooth?

Yup. Lower left. Last one came out like it was on Velcro. I don’t even think I took aspirin.

This thread is why I hate the dentist. Luckily I had mine pulled years ago and was one of the better dentist experiences of my life. Impacted sounds awful.

Funny, I had my lower left done as well. But I have the other 3 remaining, the top 2 are still in my jaw bone not even a bump from them.

My last lower wisdom tooth is just starting to like through my gums, so I’m afraid in a few years this will need to be done as well.

I was advised by every dentist I saw for years to pull them. They never bothered me so I figured why bother? I still have the two uppers and they’re no issue. With the others, one cracked and that’s the only reason I had it pulled. I’m guessing it would’ve been less painful if I’d have had it done years ago before they became problematic / rooted?

Yeah I hear ya, I was told when I was younger to pull them but I was scared about it then. If I didn’t get a cavity I wouldn’t of done anything to it but basically had no choice.

My sister is a dental hygienist and she said someone in their 50s had his growing in, not sure if he needed them pulled but it was very surprising, I guess you never know when they decide come grow the rest of the way in.
