What car? Mini? How is it set-up now, what kind of adjustments can you make, what characteristics does the car have now? Is it like a Koni set-up where you have to remove the rear completely, compress it to adjust?
Koni sports in the front non adjustable bilsteins in the back. Rear Sway is a 21mm we set to softest and she hated it so we wanted to try a few different settings on it.
I’m kinda just going with the flow. I tossed the car together, got it aligned and going lol. Putting a new radiator in tomorrow and re-bleeding my brakes. Will be a shake-down for me as I’m planning on giving TMP a whirl next Friday for open lapping.
What car though? If it’s FWD I haven’t been in a dry auto-X situation where the rear is TOO stiff, as in uncontrollable. I’d try full stiff and work on adjusting the driver up until the lunch break. My OPINION is approach a stiff rear end not as “it’s going to oversteer if you turn to hard, throttle lift, ect.” but approach it as “the roatation can be control by how smooth you apply the inputs”. The worst that will happen is it will spin, and again, in my opinion, that is fun. Then back down one setting during the lunch break if the rear end still gets upset too easliy.
I think some of those adjustable sway bar shackles are optimized when you have a buddy sit in the driver seat to simulate “race” weight. That way the side to side pre-load something something science.
I’ve tried 225 hoosiers on the front and 185 all seasons in the rear and still that set-up wasn’t OMG TOO loose, it wasn’t optimal either, but it was entertaining.
I think the only way you can get into real trouble is going for a positive toe setting in the rear.
Larger tracks, higher speeds, more corner loading you may want to try a conservative approach to keeping the rear planted. Auto-x, go full stiff, and enjoy trying to balance the rear.
Adjustable Koni go full stiff and back down 1/4 turn? I think Konis get weird when maxed out as the valving is complete blocked. For smooth surface sometimes it is better to go aggressive and back down than it is to start conservative and work your way up.
You have to try the setting at some point, right?
this is all on my girlfriend Aretta’s 2012 Mini S
At least we know it’s burn out ready…sort of.
Better than ANY burnout you’ll ever do in your garage queen!
I have my RS3’s on so no burnouts will be happening.
Don’ forget! Our novice school/test and tune is this Saturday. Event 2 on Sunday. All at the Ralph North Lot.
Sorry if I didn’t see it. What time should we arrive?
Im not 100% sure on the novice school, but i would get there around 8. and 8 at the latest for sunday.
8-830 is fine… Basically if you are reading this now get your ass moving.

Had a good time. Much better than ECC. Would like to plan on this more often. Vids to follow.
Sorry about the sound. Not sure what happened.

Genaro’s sounds a little better. Had some really good runs…especially with that giant riding shotgun.
Thanks for the vid. I believe that was the 2nd fastest lap of the day for test and tune. Had fun today, my class because of my turbo is SSM so it’s tough, people with full on slicks and what not. Let’s see how it’ll do at TMP this week.
Andy Walker was riding shotgun lol.
The throttle is not a binary switch.
My car is VERY difficult to drive, ask Andy Walker as he was shocked how well I drove it all day. Power comes on viciously, it’s very very difficult to maintain at something like this, it’s nearly impossible to be fast and smooth. It fully spools at 4500-ish, manual rack and a 370mm wheel.
Show up to the next one at Ralph, I’ll let you drive it and if you run a faster time than me I’ll buy you lunch. :gotme:
Oh snap !!
I already showed up at Ralph and I already ran a faster time than you in a stock, 160 whp 2004 RX-8.

We ran in street mod because my co-driver wanted points in the class.

So yes, anyways, I will plan to drive your car at the next event.
I usually have a salad for lunch, plan accordingly.
