First off, a clutch is a wear part. thats like trying to get your tires warranted because u tore the tits off of them with in the first 200 miles.
second off, mitsu quality huh? is this coming from the tool that dropped his STI on all four rotors? funny because i made just shy of 500whp on my stock block b4 i built the lower end, and did so for about 13 months. no problems what so ever.now with over 504whp and 456wtq, everything is rock solid.
i will admit, mitsu warantys suck my aunts cunt hair.
and only evo x MR’s have the twin clutch BS
and not really considering the clutch was brand new. a clutch surface has to be broken in just like anything else, except has to be done very gingerly. if u start beating the shit out of a brand new clutch, it will glaze over and never hold.
im obviously out of the loop with mitsubishi, BUT i will say that under ANY circumstance with a chrysler, jeep, dodge, gmc, pontiac, or buick… if the vehicle needed a clutch UNDER 12000 miles it was considered an adjustment under the new car warranty and was replaced FREE OF CHARGE to the owner.
and just to show i did my research… here is the 08 evo’s warranty… note the 12month/12,000 mile “adjustment” provision…
I agree. When I bought my SS new, everything was covered until 12,000 miles. It might have even been 18,000, not quite sure. I know the clutch (and brakes) was included in that timeframe.
EXACTLY, its all in your driving habbits. It was not cause by a faulty clutch, or any mechanical failure, but by sheer driver error. Why would mitsu have to pay for that?
12,000 mile adjustment period… all i have to say… if mitsubishi cant produce a car with a clutch that holds more than 3000 miles then they should re-think their part selection… or just keep denying honest warranty claims and see if dodge will bail them out AGAIN.
Mitsu puts weak clutches in for a reason…to protect an already weak drivetrain they’re well aware of. When mitsu designed the drive train(mainly the t-case) it was built, from the factory, to handle up to about 400ftlbs without failure. However induce massive driveline shock to the mix and they found the T-cases cracking under stock power levels. To solve this, they put in a clutch with a weaker torque capacity that slipped when necessary to avoid damaging the T-case under extreme acceleration. Far easier and cheaper than scraping ~20,000+ T-cases that were already manufactured and assembled and redesigning them from scratch.
Mitsu is KNOWN for weak clutches…it’s to be expected in the 10 series now where mitsu is testing the waters with the new driveline. 3K miles is a bit excessive, but that’s a heavy left foot and/or just an abusive driver.
abusive driver is correct. this is exactly what i’d expect outta this kid… clutch dumps, grinding gears, i’ve seen this kid drive. no i’m not saying who he is but me and big red went to school with this evo owner.
you’ve seen my handy work when it comes to clutches. never the less, 3000 miles… retarded driver or not… that should be 100% covered. i would be on the fone with mitsubishi customer relations the SECOND i hung up the phone with whatever service writer. (which i assume was you). 3000 miles is ASSININE for a clutch to fail. abuse or not.
ok, say u go out, buy a new car, doesn’t matter what it is, take it to Watkins glen for 5 straight weekends, come home and the clutch, tires, brakes were all smoked and the car only had 2000 miles on it. so ur telling me that even in this case they should be covered? the car manufacture would have no knowledge of the road racing. does this apply as well?
fact of the matter is, anything that is a wear item, will not be covered, 99% of the time.
think about it. they will sell a car to anyone whether they know how to drive it or not. its not the dealers problem if u cant drive a manual trans.
how can any one put the blame on mitsu for a warr job on abuse …thats why they have reps and a computer system to choke a horse to protect themselve,s from assholes like that and other abuse …so if i went out and held the gas pedal to the floorboard and pop the motor mitsu should by me a new one ? no thats why they have rev limiters and tach recals in the comp so they can see what the car saw
ive been in daves position… and if he WANTED to dave could get that clutch warrantied. ive fought with GM to warranty parts that were well beyond the scope of anything that should even be warrantied for customer service and in the interest of keeping a customer happy. it comes down to the discretion of the dealership and if they want to fuck the owner in the ass or not. fact of the matter is that the owner is taking a 12 incher between the cheeks.
