Go ahead, get a Subaru. Spend $1,000,000 to get 400whp then blow it up
This
Right. 'Cause Evos don’t break at all :roll2:
In reality, it’s all in how the car was treated by the PO, and how you treat it as well. Common sense, really. Get the STi, you won’t be disappointed…
my vote is for the STi. They have a much stronger tranny and can manage more modding, but still can maintain its daily driveability.
Also, new cars are poor financial decisions unless you plan on keep it for a long, long time.
STi
Just curious, what do you have done?
Still waiting on it. The guy trading it in is apparently trading it in on a new 3 series and it isn’t in yet.
The only transmissions that are extremely weak are the 2002s. In 2003 they substantially strengthened them and in 08 they made them even stronger. Even the 03-07’s are equivalent to the LGT gear sets. There’s a thread on nasioc that I’ll look for that compares the gearsets. The real problem with the wrx’s are the retards that think they can drop the clutch in an awd car like they can a mustang or a civic and blow shit up. I’m not sure what you mean by the sti’s manage more modding but the motor/components are nearly identical and most of the parts are interchangeable. The wrx’s are even a tad faster right off the showroom floor, you just loose some of the goodies like brakes and adj diff. They are really 2 similar cars made for different things.
I also wouldn’t say all new cars are poor investments. As long as you go with a company with high resale value and Subaru is rated in the top one or two with resale value. Even look at the clean 2002 wrx and sti’s. There still going for 8-10 grand and these are 11 year old cars that were around 20 grand new. Used cars are at an all time high, I’m still seeing 08’s and 09’s going for 20k+ when u can buy a base wrx new for around 25. Obviously tho the more money the car costs the more money you lose but the wrx/Sti aren’t that expensive to purchase in the first place.
Not too much but it doesn’t take much to get great power. Engine wise I have cobb access port, invidia dp, aem intake, fuel pump, Id1000cc inj, Perrin tmic, and grimmspeed ecbs. And suspension is just whiteline sways and bc racing br full coilovers.
As much as I’ll defend the wrx and it’s gearbox, I’m slowly gathering parts for the Sti 6sp swap tho, just for piece of mind and a 20g
Yes. I agree with this statement.
However, I didn’t say the transmissions are extremely weak, I said that the STi tranny is relatively stronger. With respect to the 3g models, I know just as many ‘retards’ driving STis as wrxs, and yet it’s the wrxs that spend the most time in my dad’s friend’s shop- usually due to a blown gear (and usually the driver just beating the hell out of their car).
oh, and if you’re paying 20k for an 08 or 09 nowadays, you’re paying too much. I got mine for <20k two years ago. I’m gonna be tuning it next time I am home and am grossly excited.

Doesn’t have to be that expensive to be a financially poor decision. I guess I’m being biased cause I’m a broke college kid though, so I can see your point.

I don’t wanna come off as an ass dude. I love the wrx. Enough to have gotten one myself. And a 20g sounds like tons of fun
