WTB: Portable GPS

I’m heading down to Florida in a couple weeks, wouldn’t mind GPS for the ride. I know you can get into a decent unit for almost $100 these days brand new but I’m not looking to spend that much. I really don’t have the use for GPS otherwise so after this trip I will most likely rarely use it. If you have anything used that works let me know, thanks.

trust me…even if you have to pay $80 or so (i saw a tomtom one for that today) it will be worth every penny. i have taken like 5 road trips with my gps and i would never live without it now.

My dad had picked up a sony gps for around $70. I personally got a Tomtom for chirstmas and the thing is always with me and always using it. Its worth the money even if you think you wont use after, you will.

look on amazon the tom tom are very resonably priced and as everyone else has said it will be worth every penny

X2, i guess the new sony ones are cheap and fairly decent.

After using both, I’d have to say Garmin > TomTom.

No idea how good that one is, but noticed it over at slickdeals and remembered this thread.

$60.

Georgey, I am the same way as you… I never use a gps and don’t really see a need to purchase one for local driving.

However, I agree that buying new will be a much better idea considering how cheap they are nowadays and the peace of mind associated with buying BNIB.

GL man

IMO…

Garmin>tomtom>magellan>the rest

those 3 are pretty solid, you cant really go wrong with any models of those if youre not picky. i have the garmin 680 and i LOVE it. i get msn direct with traffic updates, weather, gas prices, movie times, tts, bluetooth. pretty much everything but speech recognition. and i snagged that for $200 like 6 months ago. i would def say it is worth the few extra bucks if you have it to spend.

newegg has cheap ones, tho im not sure any of them will say “zamboni approaching”

las time I checked newegg was offering free shipping on the garmin

naw, too bad garmin still uses tele atlas maps, which were originally used in europe, if they switched over to Navteq then they would be better than magellan. Navteq data is more complete in the USA.

from what i can read garmin will be using navteq until 2015 and always have. tomtom uses teleatlas.

oops tom tom i mean, lol

Not sure where you heard that Garmin uses tele-atlas.

PS… garmin routing engine > *, which is even more important than the maps installed.

there was a decent gps on slickdeals today for $60, i forget what kind.

my Magellan gets me everywhere and i use it every day on back roads delivering pizza, it never takes me out of the way, and its accurate to 1-2 houses, i guess its all a matter of preference
