last night i was comming home and a ross cop was siting on babcock by cemetary lane , i stoped at the redlight and when it turned green he pulls out and follows me almost all the way home and then pulls me over…
says… car sounds good… ahhh ok
but it’s way too loud buddy…so he takes my lisence n registration… comes back and tells me i have to take my exhaust off, take it upto the station and have a cop sign off on it in 10 days or i will get a citation in the mail…
i asked him whats so illegal about it and he pretty much bs’d his way out of it saying anytime you put something on your muffler to make it louder is illegal…
anyone know if i can get outa this one, besides take the muffler off…think if i put the silencer on it’ll pass their little test? i think its some crap
i feel you on that ticket. the same thing happened to me in the beginning of the summer except the officer didnt give me a fix it ticket, he just suggested that i take it off.
Yea, do what domination did… check up on teh law…
i thought i heard that dBs had to be measure when teh vehicle was in gear… readings arent’ valid if they are taken with teh car in nuetral…
but i dunno that for sure… probably wrong, but who knows…
just a suggestion
He pulled you over for excessive noise but has he bothered to start pulling over all the Harley guys with stright pipes? Sounds like selective enforcement to me.
i would just go up and talk to him about it. I think they just try to get lucky and pull people over for whatever BS they can think of in the hopes that you might be drunk, or have a gun on the seat or something.
your muffler was just his excuse to get you pulled over.
Amen! i have been pulled over for some of the dumbest things…
And for harley riders… that is total b.s… when you ride past a bar (besides the south side) what do you see sittin outside… Harley bikes!! argh! they ride drunk and never get bothered
the reason they don’t get stopped is cause 99% of cops think bikes are “cool”
and loud imports/newer cars are not…its the same with older muscle cars…you don’t see them getting pulled over as much as newer cars.
agreed…
I think that’s why i get away with the exhaust on my car, b/c its about as loud as you get… but its a muscle car… i get stuff like
“we heard you were swerving all over the road and might be intoxicated”… “I thought i saw something hanging from underneath ur car”… or “you have a tail light out”… meanwhile, there are 3 lights in each of my tailights… the really small one all the way to the left is out… the one for the parking lights… i mean, who really gives a fuck
I was pulled over when i was 17 for, “sounding” like i was going too fast before. Yeah I was really luckly at the time my car was a stock Si with an Exhaust. IF i got pulled over nowadays I think a cop would have coniption once he look inside my car and saw me wearing 5 points.
I could imagine now, cop “son you think this is race car?”
me"yes sir, yes it is"
Anyways fight that beotch and stick it to the man. I believe you can win, and the law is on your side.
bwahahaha LOL I was watching my speed on the way home from beaverun’s last flat out sunday. I was thinking it would be bad to get pulled w/ gloves, shoes and my helmet in the pass seat
About the exhaust SweetCav… is it REALLY that loud or was he messin w/ ya? I’d def. find out the law on the dB’s, and get yours tested somehow…There are a few ricers round my house that need to tone it down. Normally it doesn’t bother me much, but if it’s after midnight and they are zipping up and down the street JUST to hear their exhaust, they deserve a kick in the nuts.
I make sure to mention huge, lifted trucks if I am stopped for being so low. It’s the same concept just in opposite directions. But big lifted trucks are ‘cool’ around here as someone mentioned Harleys are considered cool by a lot of the older generation. Now with the airbags, I will be sure to mention how a great majority of semi’s use them.
this is how he has to measure the deceble level as well which I’m sure he didn’t do…
b) Measurement distance. The noise limits established by this section shall be based on a distance of 50 feet from the center lane of travel within the speed limit specified in this section. Measurements at distances closer than 50 feet from the center of the lane of travel may be made. In such a case, the measuring device shall be so calibrated as to provide for measurements equivalent to the noise limit established by this section measured at 50 feet.
that sucks, thow i do rember my dad telling me back in the 60’s & 70’s (muscle car era) ppl use to put glass packs on and cops used to get ppl for there loud exhust.
