FTFY
Jay (turbob16) realizes his faults, kids looking for help… let it go…
You need to stop and actually realize who some of the people your talking to are. Half the people that just flamed in this post (that I deleted) have more knowledge then you and me combined.
Except for burnyd…
Unless where talking about Toyota Camry’s…
i had sort of the same problem with my old turbo civic, it would break up real bad in high rpm sometimes but other times it was fine, i was dumping wayyyyy too much fuel. You’ve already had it tuned by a good shop so i dunno about that. I’m obviously not extremely familiar with evo’s but how is your tuning software installed? If it’s a socketed chip in the ecu, it may be a loose socket, that happens to alot of guys in the honda/acura world. GL with it
I know starboy, I’m just sick of dudes bashing my friend instead of helping, I know Jason appreciates you cleaning up the thread. I dont think anyone tries to help Jason harder than I do, besides Jason himself, obviously.
The car is not really breaking up ~5k the car is pulling but you can feel its not as clean and crisp as the rest of the pull. The car has compressor surge ~4k.
What I’m thinking (I’m throwing it out there take with a grain of salt.)
We logged the car around 4k the compressor surge is causing the ecu to pickup ~8 counts of knock. The ecu is most likey switching to the low octane map with low as balls timing.
By this time the compressor surge is gone and no knock is being picked up, the ecu reverts back to the high octane timing map and the car kicks ass.
I dont think anything else is wrong with the car, I mean the car does feel the tune could be smoothed out a hair but I dont think there is any misfiring or such.
The only thing that Shawn and I saw otherwise is that the crank signal is nowhere near being a squarewave pattern under wot. I dont know if that is normal for evos or not. I’m even assuming evos use a square wave pattern.
Steve is the reason I have the cars I do without his help and motivation I would get no where, but I understand where everyones coming g there’s to much bitching the thread is for helpful info not just trying to get a cheap shot in
I talked to travis off Evo m and he wants to look at my load cells again so maybe he might come up with something
i can e-mail them to him if you want?
are there fuel trims with the logs?
fuel trim for mid is minus 4-5%
I still think we need to get a wideband on the car, when we richened up the target a/f map the car got worse, maybe buschur has the a/f’s on the fat side.
can you email me the settings as well as the log files too? unknowncliche@yahoo.com thanks
your not logging a/f?
…timing retard will help spool, not delay it.
no, there is no wideband on the car as usual.
and yes youre right, i’m wrong. getting everything mixed up and thinking too hard.
what were the a/f ratios when buschur tuned it?
Log A/F to start with, and back off leaning it out…is there any noticeable vibration past a certain rpm on the rollers?
Since the problem is intermittent, I doubt it’s the tune itself, but that’ll be cleared up from logging…a loose connection could be to blame. Higher rpm = lots of vibration and intermittent break ups, if that is the case.
did you fix it yet?
Not actually breaking up but feeling odd at higher rpms is usually an indication of knock/timing retard.
come to find out there was a hole on the back of one of the couplers that a boost leak test revealed and that was the whole issue
see? its always something retarded. glad to see you figured it out.
i knew it
hahaha stupid hair dryer systems
wow mack did call that one. seriously you should have an sc lol no boost leaks FTW. oh wait you wanted to be fast…ok keep the turbo.
