Xbox 360 is a piece of s**t

So far in my family:

1 xBox 360 last week
2 PS2s (All died from the standard disc read error about one year apart, the 3rd one seems to be good after two.)

It’s more luck of the draw in a lot of cases. To put it in easily understandable car terms. Some will own a Toyota and have constant issues, and some can own a DSM with little issues.

That can be fixed easily

I did the standard clean it out, clean lens, adjust laser power, and adjust lens position (Older revisions, newer being automatic) method. To no avail. The second one got hungry and decided to start eating discs in the most literal way possible. That poor brave GT4 disc, at least GameStop covered both.

ill let u know later today if it worked, i gotta drive all the way to shit USA to get thermal paste, fuck!!!

Good luck with that, are they even still open?

Check with the guys at Cyberjocks if not, they probably have what you need.

You and I are exact opposites Jay, I’ve had very few problems with my Xbox and 360 and problems galore with my PS2 (still haven’t bought a PS3 and won’t until later this year).

It really is luck of the draw. Stupid question but I’ll throw it out there, 360 is on a solid surface with good circulation around it? Is it sitting vertical or horizontal. I’ve found through my experiences that any system that can sit vertical shouldn’t, it ends up putting more stress on the components.

got it at best buy, forgot there was one right around the corner from me.

ok, that method didnt work. I still have some testing to do as to how tight to make all the bolts, it might be too tight, further flexing the motherboard. lol, of course this wasnt as easy as initially expected. I might just go buy a core system and use my hdd and dvd drive in that, then test this one at my own time.

It’s sitting (was sitting) horizontally. I have it in my TV stand but there is a good amount of air around it and the stand is open on the front and back. I don’t know if I have enough room to take it out of the TV stand but i may try that when I get it back.

solution: http://www.vantecusa.com/p_td_8038h.html

As long as you dont mind the system sounding like it has a jet engine in it.

thats not gunna help shit if the mb flexes and breaks solder points, like many people have been experiencing.

i wish MS would get rid of those shitty xbraces and design something that doesnt put so much stress on the center of the motherboard.

So what drive did you get? No firmware for the new BenQ drive, or the 79h Hitachi drive.

I’ve heard of other fixes for this problem, one in particular a heat gun, has had the best success rate. The cold soldering from the shit manufacturing can be made to re-floe by applying heat from a heat gun. Google it im sure many results will pop up.

79 can be done, but you have to open the drive, remove the epoxy on the board, removing the tsop, reflashing it, then soldering it back…lol

got my 360 today, got the ms28 drve, im so happy. yay. lol out of warranty 5 minutes after i got it, but i managed to get the ms security sticker off without it tearing using a heat gun. now off to flash this bitch.

so if anyone has a ms28 FW drive, chime in, as im donig this today sometime.

Im jealous. You make me fell poor. I have this.

LOL.Mind the mess the pic was taken befor I moved in.

Ha… yeah, I guess I shouldn’t have said can’t flash the 79, but it’s a real pain in the ass and well above the ability of the casual hobbiest.I’ll PM you about your MS 28.

yeah im glad i didnt get that drive. lol

i would of kept sending it back till i got one i could flash.

I can’t wait until my Xbox 360 breaks again. I am going to bitch out the customer service until they give me and Elite. I’ll pay the difference in price, but there is no way I am going to take back the same 360 that keeps breaking.

It’s been almost a week since mine died. I haven’t heard anything from the MS service center yet. I really need to play NHL2k7. I am tempted to buy it used for PS3 and then take it back for something else when I get my 360 back.

call them, they are real idiots from what i hear.

good luck understanding any of them also.
