Yahoo's Plans Unvailed...

Do they have a job listing, I usually look on the main sites like monster, indeed, etc.

You mean http://us.careers.yahoo.com/

pshh…no…OK…yeah.

Nothing that interests me.

Has Rexel provided material for many data centers?

Yes. We are not good at it but we are able to supply a lot of the gear and wire. I did quote all of the racks and patching but lost that. There is a ton of Aluminum MC cable up there though and we are the local stocking dist. for that material.

Fixed

I have a ton of pictures of the last mud pit. There’s a ton of issues with the call center building bid/costs causing a lot of havoc with the bid. Ours is back in for I think the third time.

Our shovels go in the ground Monday!

 Good stuff

Hopefully other companies jump on the cheap power/cheap land in that area now that Level3, TWC, and other carriers already ran fiber out there.

Would be nice to see some other tech companies here. Wouldn’t mind seeing some big colo company’s here too.

They should really move all the colo stuff out of 350/390 Main and out to Lockport.

Keep all the telecom shit in the tower but it was never designed to meet the weight requirements for server/colo space and its over priced.

But but downtown is good!.. Yea they can get so much more bang for there buck out in Lockport.

People want to “keep investing” money in downtown build offices or places to work and live its a horrible place for data centers.

Take Shatter IT for example the way that building is they can only do single entry fiber because the costs/permits/etc would be insane to run another entry.

The generator on the building is bad and would have to be installed in the roof which again would make the costs insane so they don’t have one last time I checked.

They ended up moving all their stuff from their premier buffalo data center in 350 main because the old building was a horrible setup.

The big thing with DT was it was the big hub for the internet connections including canada telecom so that is why people like it there. What did they run to NYC? Obviously it was pretty big since Yahoo is there but have they expended it more to allow colo?

Have fun digging in the snow

Yahoo has a couple juniper T series and a cross connect into fiber there.

350 main is and was a great central point for telecom but all of the floors have weight restrictions not designed for high density blades/servers/racks.

Telecom equipment is fine and its a central point for a ton of fiber but the building is old etc

A million dollar idea would be to turn a grain elevator into a stacked data center. Cooling from the air, wind power that can be used as a supplementary power for other non critical services, and there is fences and warehouses around to support DR offices.
