If pot were legal couldn’t anyone and their grandma grow it in there house and not pay for the taxed stuff from the government? If its legal to buy/consume/have then everyone would just grow their own… right? Or they could make it illegal to grow, but I feel like this wouldn’t be policed properly or effectively. I feel like legalizing weed isn’t as easy as some people think.

Not dumb - alcohol is legal, and you can make your own wine or beer in your home, but you can not own a still larger than one gallon, and it can only be used for distilling water and the like:

You cannot produce spirits for beverage purposes without paying taxes and without prior approval of paperwork to operate a distilled spirits plant. [See 26 U.S.C. 5601 & 5602 for some of the criminal penalties.] There are numerous requirements that must be met that make it impractical to produce spirits for personal or beverage use. Some of these requirements are paying special tax, filing an extensive application, filing a bond, providing adequate equipment to measure spirits, providing suitable tanks and pipelines, providing a separate building (other than a dwelling) and maintaining detailed records, and filing reports. All of these requirements are listed in 27 CFR Part 19.
So, while it’s legal to drink whiskey, you can not make it in your home. I’m guessing this would be how it works with weed
I would guess its easier to grow decent weed than it is to make decent beer/whiskey.
growing good weed is a very involved process, although I also view beer brewing as an involved process.
I was unaware… so maybe its not as complicated as I think to legalize weed.

hydroponics…no dirt or sunlight required and the pot comes out real good. Downside is the cost and risk. The lamps get hot to the point where you can burn down your house if it tips over or something. The lamps also need to equally distribute light, so you may have to rotate them. The root of the plant gets submerged in water with rocks or something (not sure on this part). The cost of building out a hydrponics setup is quite high. It also takes a pretty long time for it to grow and bud (the buds are what you smoke, the leaves are shit).
Inside = not so simple.
