I guess I just see those cars having the higher end names and not just lumped together. A Focus a Focus. A “Focus RS” doesn’t really mean much where some of those others have other names for them that classify them.
Lancer -> Evo
WRX->STI
BMWs have numbers to identify them. A 135 is a 135/128 is a 128
I don’t know about that. Kittie currently has a GT350 and is gouging the fuck out of it at $150k. Maybe the RS being not as much of a high profile car wouldn’t be marked up quite as high…either way, no one is going to be taking delivery until spring.
I think BMW and Mercedes split it up pretty good. A 1 series is known. You want to move up, you get a 3…4…5…6…7… No one spending $100k+ on a higher end 7 series is getting it confused with a 1 or a 3.
You’re probably right… so I might want to retract my statement. I’d say give it a good 6-9 months and I bet they start selling at invoice. I was in there last weekend and did see that GT350 but didn’t ask price. I bought a few cars from them and everything was at invoice. I also asked my sales guy if they were doing invoice on the new raptors coming out in 17 and he said more than likely so was just going off that. I can see them selling a 40k car at invoice but not that GT350 being a bit more rare. I can’t see ford limiting production of the RS.
Fiesta has no performance line that is 2-3x its base MSRP
Focus base is $17k and now they have a “super” RS model that is almost 2x what it is.
Mustang branded their own performance line Shelby essentially so if you did throw over the $50k for one, you at least have a new class of Shelby that people know.
FordGT has always been performance. There is no “Base”
Fiesta = 1 series
Focus = 3/4 series
Mustang = 5 series
ford GT = 7 series…
not necessarily EQUAL but that it’s a lineup that increases in size/performance/price relatively…as does 1-3-4-5etc.
also, base fiesta vs. fiesta ST is no different than 128 vs 135.
obviously not every single car company has a performance and base variant of every model they make, including BMW which you seem to be saying does not fit in the comparison.
not to hurt anyone’s feelings on the focus but while the new RS is pretty awesome (along with the older SVT hatches) and that blue color is beautiful every time I think of a focus or someone says they drive a focus I think of the 2002 four door base model piece of junk lol
Let’s not forget that European BMW’s can be had with lower displacement fours, and fabric interior, no option to no option. 318i SE @ £25,160 to M3 @ £56,595 = 2.249 x mark-up.
what? £25k and then have to explain why you decided to pay for the £56k one.
Didn’t realize…either of those. Seems kind of silly to spend that much when we have one and are asking “only” $73k (or thereabouts). I guess vehicle options matter that much when you’re willing to spend $27k more…
Normally I hear Van Bortel is the place to go for some of the better deals around, this one just blew my mind is all. If they really were looking to garner that much attention, it seemed to do the trick as was mentioned.
I mostly was saying I am shocked they still kept the focus name since most people hear Focus and have a very base view of one and not take on a performance line if this is what they are going for a direction like this. I would have them to follow suit like Dodge did with the Hellcat line and make this a little more worthy and not so Focus focused (hehe)
The shit show that ensued I take no responsibility for.
FYI towne still has one reserved but not yet ordered…so colors an options can still be chosen pre-delivery…I stopped in and had a chat with 38stang yesterday and flipped through a bunch of the literature.
