2002 or 2005 WRX - 1993 rx-7

1993 mazda rx-7 RWD TT- 90,000km
2002 WRX sedan AWD T- 90,000km
2005 WRX sedan AWD T - 90,000km
All Priced the same.

Both have pro’s and con’s
some more than other.

I’m thinking of getting the Rx-7 for the summer just to enjoy.

I was originally thinking of just getting a WRX until this CANADIAN FD’ was Offered.

90,000km what is about to go wrong?

whats worth more over all?

AWD or RWD? (non of this bias DRIFT RWD YO - these cars are not being purchased for drifting )

Is ther any way to make FD’s reliable for DD / a few track days?

What are you opinions?

What would you/jesus do?

What has more pro’s
more cons?

I’m pretty sure the FD has more cons if it isnt set up properly,
but im sure you guys know more than I do.

Anything else thats imformation that you can think of , I appreicate it!

thank you for viewing & responding!

RX7 just for the fact that i love the FD and would take one over a WRX! RWD is better to the handling is just awesome!

Do you need this car to take you anywhere? Is it at all important, or just a frivolous purchase for fun?
I’m asking, because you cannot count on an FD for anything, other than to be really awesome.
The Subie will take you to work, school, dinner, etc… The FD will eat your time and money. However, when the FD is running, the Subie could never dream of being even half the car the FD is.

yea its a daily driver, so im thinking I get it for the remainder of the summmer

and put it up for trades when the winter comes for a WRX

I think you should do that!!! i want to cruise in FD

i would go w/ the 350z behind the fd

Tough choice, I’ve done some research and read many reliability threads on FDs because I considered buying one before.

A stock FD “could” be daily driven however as far as I know gas mileage isn’t the greatest so another thing to consider. You’ll have to look into the general Rx7 “reliability mods” as the rx7 guys will say so you might want to consider those costs to daily drive a FD. You’ll hear lots of stories some good but generally they are bad lots of repairs needed to be done after 80-100k (mile).

General consensus is stuff starts breaking after 100k no matter how well maintained, and theres stories of people that has never had problems, but that isn’t the general population of FD owners. (speaking only on fd’s, FC models generally are more reliable).

better decide soon… winter looks like it’s coming early!

i’m sure it’s still worth the hassle of getting the fd within a couple of weeks, then selling it off in under 2 months and getting your wrx. if you really want it that bad then definitely go for it…but if you’re iffy about the amount of effort everything will take, i’d suggest just getting the wrx and maybe consider an fd for next summer at this point. just a thought.

By no means should you get an FD as a daily. Take it from someone that got a DSM as a winter car. FDs are pretty much the least reliable car in existance, even FCs are a lot more reliable because they don’t have the silly sequential twin turbo system.

90,000 kms on a rotary engine is alot… if it has not been completely rebuilt yet, it will need to be soon. like agent240 said stuff starts to break after 100,000

get the 05 WRX for sure.
im a big fan of rally racing, and have driven a few wrx. AWD in them is amazing!! go test drive one if you havent yet.

i personally would go with the FD if you dont mind driving RWD in winter, it can be a bitch. Also the note that when I go out I hate being a taxi, so since theres only one passenger seat, girlfriend. If you went with the WRX id go 05 just because they look better. I no nothing about the imprezas, besides that its got 4 wheels and a steering wheel

Unless you can properly maintain an RX-7, stay away from it. It’s not like taking care of a regular piston powered car.

So just get the WRX.

And for the love of God don’t winter drive an FD.

how much is the 7?

fd’s can be swaped to sr20 yo

and solarian
my buddy has the same dsm as you … he has beaten the fucking shit out of it every day … and he has only spent 500 on rebuilding the head, car was off the road for a week or so…

If you have another car, get the FD. The FD is just a toy in my opinion.

The subbie on the other hand can be a great daily driver, winter beater, and even a fun track car. It might probably be cheaper on insurance too.

In the end, it’s up to you.

yea thats a good question
whats cheaper on insurance?

And it was your dumb ass egging me on that encouraged me to get that shitbox. Don’t talk. I don’t blame you for it, but don’t ever bring it up again.

right, so …I’m a dumb ass because you bought a piece of shit

what a flake comment.

“If you catch me in the mood that im in right now, i will do a direct trade” or whatever the quote was, either way… I dont think you should be calling me dumb .

is this the same buddy who checked his oil on your driveway and didnt have any.

i love dsm’s

btw … id go with the rx7. get a wrx after

Tim SHUT THE FUCK UP. You were on msn right after that telling me to buy that piece of shit. As I said, I can’t blame you, because I was the idiot that actually went for it, but I swear to god, if you bring it up again, don’t you dare show your face infront of me. I will fucking beat your 5 foot ass into a pulp. You have no idea what that shit cost me, and I will murder Jay if I ever see him. Do not expect much better treatment.
