2012-2013 Ski/Snowboard Thread!

Anyone know of any good places to stay in Breckenridge? Just the wife and I. Looking for something inexpensive. 4 days.

I hear that… Were young and ambitious so finding stuff shouldnt be an issue lol. 6 feet is a lot already but thats still three weeks away so I can imagine theyll get a good amount more.

I havent been to Breckenridge in years, not sure about inexpensive places. Staying in the village is the best no question but I do remember passing some hotels on the way in which I would think would be a little less money.

I have skied at these places if anyone wants a review :)…

Aspen (all 4 resorts/mountains)
Vail
Breckenridge
Telluride
Jackson Hole
Snow King
Solitude
Alta
Deer Valley
Park City
Snowbird
Squaw Valley
Northstar
Big Sky
Moonlight Basin
Whistler (heli-ski too)
Blackcomb
Killington
Pico
Stowe

Looking at maybe Taos NM for something different this year.

Update: Jackson has had 8 feet so far.

I cant wait to head out west this year. Im thinking Lake Tahoe.

Has anyone been to Whiteface? If so, how are the yearly conditions there? I’ve been hearing that it’s actually usually icy there.

The Lake Tahoe area is my favorite and the skiing at Squaw Valley is awesome. (It is about 40 degrees warmer than Whiteface too. lol)
Two things about Tahoe are 1) It takes forever to get there. 2) It is not cheap to get there either.

Yeah I dont have any “out west” experience to speak of outside of Tahoe, but damn was it amazing. Did Squaw, Northstar, and Boreal (smaller hill which is basically just a massive terrain park for locals).

Squaw was phenomenal, more open, and the most scenic of the two but I liked Northstar a little more because I actually prefer glades more than bowls. Northstar has plenty of bowls but it was a nice blend of both trees and rock faces lol. If you do Tahoe definitely take the time to hit up a few resorts. Theyre all pretty different despite their proximity. Still would love to do Heavenly someday. The view of lake from there looks amazing.

They don’t call it “iceface” for nothing. Always my least favorite choice growing up, considering what else was around it. Stowe, Jay Peak, Killington, Mount Snow(if you like park riding) were always my top choices.

I really wanted to hit up Heavenly but there was NO SNOW when I was there. It was 60 damn degrees in February. Our ski trip turned into hiking, rock climbing and gambling.lol

Was out today! Damn it felt good to be back on the slopes. Everything from groomers to knee/thigh deep powder.

Bragger. :frowning:

I know right. No more comments from people outside NY state. lol

Wah!!! Cry me a river, you’re just jealous you’re stuck there.

Oh, and they’re predicting another storm tomorrow, and another on Sat, both tracking and looking to be good for the resorts.

Any Yesterday wasn’t all fun and games; showed me how out of shape I’ve gotten over the past year; fuck. Plus I found out how much energy it really takes to dig oneself out of a deep patch (almost waist deep on me, who’s 6’, 3") of powder with no shovel.

Yeah, digging yourself out sucks!!! lol Dont fall into any of the Pine tree holes. (a major low spot surrounding a pine tree with all high snow around it)

Anyone know of any close mountains expecting snow this weekend? Or at least not rain? I planned on going to Killington but as of now it is suppose to rain Saturday. Thanks

Holiday valley has a rail jam Saturday the 8th from 12 to 3pm. Not sure anyone cares to go but just putting it on here.

KB was making snow this morning, not sure why.

Yup,they are expecting rain there this weekend. This SUCKS

Holiday Valley and Peek n peak were as well.

Edit: yeah it doesnt seem to make sense but my thoughts would be to put a cold layer on the ground before the warm comes to try and keep the ground cold and also possibly having something left to build off of.

Buffalo News article titled “Global Warming in Ellicottville?” and under the picture it says The slopes of Holiday Valley lack their usual abundance of snow. Really? By December 9th they usually have an “abundance” of snow? Hmmm.
