2013/2014 Ski/Snowboard Thread.

I really loved Snowbird and I hear Park City is a blast and great party town as well. Might want to look into that.

Let me know if you are ever riding locally. You and maybe Joe. Been a while and be nice to ride with the first person I ever snowboarded with.

I haven’t been to one resort here in UT that I didn’t enjoy; although I’m not allowed at 2 of them because I’m a single-planker (Deer Valley and Alta are ski’s only).

Park City and Canyons are both nice; but $$$$; Canyons is owned by Talisker.
Snowbird I’ve been to and stayed at, but haven’t ridden yet (On this years list); amazing place.
Brighton is like the KB of WNY; smaller, cheaper, family friendly, but the smaller old-style place that mostly locals go to.
Solitude is right next door to Brighton and a nice resort
Powder Basin is huge and really nice (Gold plated fucking bathrooms); but they’ve had some bad press with how they treat snowboarders, although I’ve never had an issue.

Like I said, it sort of sucks because I dont get out much after Jan 1. but we should meet up some time fo sho.

And yeah Utah and Jackson Hole are both on my list for places to go to next but this time it looks just like Tahoe.

man, you guys are talking about snowboarding already and I’m still wakeboarding without a wetsuit… i love the south

I personally loved Snowbird. Its got a lot of steep terrain and the back bowl is huge!!! you have like 2 miles of deciding where you want to drop in.

Any of these locations you go to, make sure you go into town/slc and buy your tickets at snow shops. Tickets at snowbird are like $80-90 I paid like $65 at the snow shops because they buy bulk and resell. Same with Park city, way overpriced because of tourist location, but you can get a good discount at local shops.

hahaha… still wishing I could get back on a board, sucks. Got to say though, Utah and Colorado both go snow, and not just at the peaks. Also heard Iceface got some as well.

Yup… my lawn was white on Friday! Only for a few hours though; I’m at about 5000’. The mountains all still have snow on them from the storm; hopefully it’s a sign of a good season!

Is it puking out there 97fws-6?!?!?

In the mountains it is!!! Has been for almost 24 hours. Just rain down here in the valley though.

Snowbird is covered; they’re predicting 6-12" over the next 48 hours. But the real interesting part is the temp drop after this storm looks like we’re at the start of winter now; supposed to be only 40s and 50s after this weekend; which means the resorts will be freezing temps. As such, the ones that can make snow, will be. If I had to bet, I’d say the ones who can make snow will be open in ~ 3 weeks.

Different note - Got my new helmet in… fucking Europeans have tiny skulls. A “Large” wouldn’t fit my 7 1/4 hat size head; thus I had to return it. Such is life.

Cant wait to get back on the slopes… Need to go west this year!

Update - Brighton Resort has 8" and counting at their base/parking lot area…

The ski/snowboard sale was lame if anyone else went. I did not see anything 70% off or even close.

I might disband with my Burton animal custom 158 this season, if there’s interest.

Well, the season is officially here in UT… Solitude has announced that opening day will be this Friday, Nov 8th. First resort to open in UT unless Brighton or Alta decides to open tomorrow. Snowbird has announced they will open on the 20th.

If I didn’t have school Friday, I’d be out there! Time to dig my gear out and get things ready for this season!!!

Yea… I’m 95% I’m playing hooky from work tomorrow and hitting the slopes… 30" base and snowing today, tonight, and tomorrow at the resorts…

Super jelly bra!!

Don’t you have pow days anyway out there?

My aunt and uncle have been instructors at Snowbird and various resorts in Utah for 30+ years, originally instructed at KB when they lived in Buffalo long ago.
Uncle races for the US Ski Team Masters and is an Atomic Ski Pro rep. I skied out West for 15 yrs every spring break and began racing at Snowbird when i was 14. If you love to ski you must visit out west once to experience it, simply amazing.

Plan on teaching my 3yr old this year, same age I started. Hoping for a good ski/snowmobile season this year!

Awesome! Yea, I’ve been here 2 seasons, but haven’t been able to get out a lot (school and baby who’s now 2) but this maybe our last winter living here, so I’m hitting as many different resorts that I can am allowed to this season. (Powder Mountain, Brighton and Park City are already checked off).

We haven’t had any yet this year; Sunday was the closest with 24" of fresh snow on Saturday evening/sunday morning. But the lift lines were STUPID I was told; seeing only Brighton & Solitude were open.

I just need to get out… need a day away from life… but I’m not even going to get that… but I did get clearance to call into 2 of my work meetings tomorrow from the slopes; which I’m going to be doing while I’m riding!!!

Doing my Ipod program now. Board is waxed and ready to rock. Just gotta grab breakfast, drop kiddo off at daycare, then I’m heading to the slopes to be one of the first chairs (as normal for me).

Different question/topic - Wax Recommendations? I just switched from a Soy based that I liked to the Super Hot Sauce stuff. Went on a TON easier and scraped super easy. Anyone use this stuff before? I’m hoping it performs well.

I haven’t learned to wax my own yet and phatman does a fantastic job for 18$ so ill just keep going there lol

2 years and you haven’t been to Alta/Snowbird, Deer Valley or Solitude?!?!?!? You have to get out to those places!
