Axlerod the euro ones, even tho they had CA18DETs, were always called 200SX. Don’t ask me why. Maybe clean up this thread, though, and add it to the FAQ?
A lot was accomplished here today

My civic has less than the CA, but its still faster than the KA.
And has less torque than my lawnmower
B16’s are good engines, but so are CA’s and KA’s. Personally I’d rather have the latter two under my hood.

Wow Thanks for the comments boys and girls.
Head
we got the torquey end of the stick. americans love trucks! even when they are cars.
the ka came in more cars then trucks.
Well, you can’t deny that a Japanese company, views the west as we really are, McDonalds eating, automatic driving, etc… They would want to give us an engine with more torque, and when they saw that they have a pickup truck/family sedan engine they didn’t hesitate to plop it into a sportscar.
Realistically speaking, there weren’t enough enthusiasts here to warrant the SR20DET. The KA was an economy engine, and we figured out how to make it good b/c we were stuck with it.
Wrong again.
There were legality issues with the SR in North America, Nissan would not design an engine specifically for North America because we like to eat McDonalds…
It doesn’t pass emissions or?
That makes sense actually… cause to put a new engine like the KA in the car, would cost more money than to sell it as is.
But then again lots of other companies do that too, put in bigger engines for North America, Honda sells the accord as the TSX with a larger engine with more torque, and the original accord engine is definitely legal here, since it’s also on the prelude.
Hmm… since we’re already talking about 240’s of the world, what do you guys know/think about the SR20VET on the japanese x-trail? From what little I’ve seen and heard of them, they’re supposed to put out more power AND get better fuel economy too.
They needed to differentiate the TSX from the North American Accord to justify the pricing differences as well as badging it as an Acura. I don’t really know much more about the engines, what engine comes in the TSX? I know it’s 2.4L… it could also just be that the old accord engine has been replaced with a newer engine similar to how the ka was replaced.
No no, I meant the global accord when I said accord. The USDM accord and TSX have nothing in common. Cause the global accord has an engine from the same family as the prelude whereas the TSX here (pretty much the same car as the global accord) has a completely different one which I believe (I’m nowhere near sure of this, so nobody take it as a fact) has an engine from the RSX family but at a higher displacement.
