2nd gear problems

ok… i bought a 2000 integra (sorry not a nissan) maybe you guys can answer this anyway? ok problem is this:

when shifting from 1st gear to 2nd the tranny makes a grinding noise then goes into 2nd. it only does this when i move the shifter directly from 1st into 2nd. it will not make the noise if i pull out of 1st let the shifter flop into it’s neutral position and then move it into 2nd. in case you are going to ask… my clutch is in all the way! any guesses? it only started this morning.

ok… first, (before you get all like “what the f#@k is wrong with my car?”) don’t you think you should wait (at least another day or two) to see if this problem persists?

second, the temperature was below -10 this morning, and it is not uncommon for gears to grind in cold weather ( i like to double-clutch when it’s freezing cold out and my car hasn’t reached normal operating temperature yet).

and, lastly, if there actually is a problem with your shifting, it could be anything from bad gears or synchros to low fluid levels or even clutch master or slave cylinder issues… and most likely NOT because you don’t have the clutch pedal all the way to the floor.

i guess that makes sense… but the car had warmed up… to what i think is normal op. temperature as the temp gauge was around the middle point.

i had a 98 civic befor, and in cold weather i never had problem with the tranny grinding, It could be your sinkros are gone between the two gears.
