$4750 2000 Audi S4 project!

Yes, haha I’m working my way to that.

I may just rig the car onto the lift so I can just drop the k-member and not have to pull it with the cherry picker

I didn’t mean Audi, I meant 2.7tt.

I might just be really sick of working on them after this last car. Clutch issues alllllll day. Never buy an rs4 clutch for a stg3 car. Go better/aftermarket.

i’d just pull the engine. It really takes about 4 hours your first time. The engine mounts are mounted TO the subframe, so then you still have the frame rails in teh way and still have to suspend the motor w/a hoist.

Yeah I guess I’ll go that route.

I’m just replacing the turbos with OEM, and the clutch in there is really good still, It probably has less that 25k miles on it.

I just wanna get these in, put the motor in and enjoy the car. Haha the hardest part was getting that friggen bumper off what a nightmare.

FYI: While dropping the motor out through the bottom you will have to move it forward a bit to clear the frame rails, not a big deal though, just thought I would mention it before you MF the thing because it is a touch to wide to drop where it is.

I think I’m gonna cherry pick it anyway. I have all the tools to do either or and the car won’t go on the lift unless I jack it up anyways haha

Busted my balls today:

By myself I worked from 3PM till about 11 to pull the motor. Talk about what a bitch.

Started the day by pulling the intercoolers:

MMM oil

Then drained the radiator, undid the hood latch, disconnected the wires and the power steering oil cooler to remove the rest of the front clip.

Then moved onto unbolting the driveshaft, half shafts, and catback exhaust, the oil temp sensor, the alternator, the ground and the positive wire connection to the starter/

Then the longest part:
I prepared the engine to be removed. I took out the ECU, disconnected all the wires. Disconnect the heater core, the shift linkage, and fuel lines.

Finally I got the engine out. I didn’t take a picture cause I was too tired and hungry to stay at the shop any longer.

Tomorrow the turbos will be going on and the lengthy reinstall process will begin

Im there currently.

Looks good sobo. Your moving along nicely with this. Good luck putting it all back together.

Thanks you, I need all the motivation I can get.

I now see why everyone was like: You might aswell go stage 3, blah blah blah.

This is a bitch, it’s a difficult job in comparison to many other jobs I’ve done.

I think the real trick is to take baby steps, I worked on it for along time yesterday and was absolutely frustrated, hungry, and tired therefore the process seemed way more tedious.

putting used turbos in that is the dumbest thing i have ever heard…

Nice progress…are the Turbos the only issues mechincally?

4,200 seems like a really good deal for that being the only problem

to do the job properly you are looking at $2500+ in parts and $2000+ in labor

i totally agree, hows the clutch…since its already in 9248348 different parts

I had no idea this job would be that involved. I figured he was pulling the motor to do a few other things like head work or what not.

sobo - props for knowing what you were getting yourself into before buying.

30,000 miles on the turbos is baby miles.

The cars already got 130,000 on it, the thing will be scrapped before the new used turbos fail.

You do realise that these are s4/rs4 turbos you’re talking about here, right?

All you need to do is google “s4 blown turbo” and see all the lads w/blown turbos at severely low milage… like the set I replaced recently that were dead at 43k.

Dont worry…he seems to know more than the rest of the world about Audi repairs.

As much as I loved mine…I would be hardpressed to buy another one without having all of the maint. done and current…and even then something is bound to break.

yup def should have went K04’s for the trouble

at least everyone in this thread is not clueless

My K03s blew at 121k. So its hit or miss with the turbos. Just make sure you warm them up and cool them down approprietely.

I’m going stage 3 currently because i plan on having this car for a long time and it wouldnt have made sense to do all that labor and not put brand new K04s in it. But yes it is costing a pretty penny and it sounds like your trying to do a budget running S4.
