whats up with the engine harness that it dont run?
aint that the truth…
it was badly burned right above number 4 cylinder. the harness plug that connects to the egr looking thing (not sure what it is i’m old school) was burnt clear off, as was the main harness. There is about a dozen wires or so burnt to the point that they are all shorting together. Still not sure if it damaged the ecm. When we first got it it would turn over, but not start. Of course it doesn’t now as we got the harness out of the car.
They were only rated at 160hp I believe. And being in that big bulky firebird body didn’t help either. The 3.8’s were much nicer and much better as far as power and reliability goes.
Not sure about the reliability issue, I was reading on another site where lots of the 3.4s going well past 180000 miles.
bring it buy,did u take it out or cut it out?
Thats amazing because all I have heard about them are unreliability issues (after I bought mine and then with what happend to it). Some people say because it was originally the 2.8 then bored out so far to a 3.4, I don’t really know, all I do know is I didn’t have it for very long, then it started having issues, and it just progressed, and before I knew it I was LITERALLY getting TEN miles to the gallon, went and got it diagnoses and they basically told me it needed another engine so I sold it and thankfully didn’t take much of a loss. I would personally never buy a 3.4 again, in any car.
3.4’s run good and pretty long…from what I hear some have issues with intake gaskets.
If you want a cheap swap I would say LT1…great bang for your buck motor. Or maybe you can find a 3.8 L36…or a L67 might be a interesting setup.
We took it out, but we did cut the crank sensor wires at the balancer. But I did find one, and it should be here bythe weeks end.
I do want cheap, but it seems that even an LT1 swap would be out of the question for me right now. I just have too many projects going on, and never enough money to fund all of them.
At the point that the car sits right now, with the replacment harness, I have $525.00 into it. I hoping to find a decent 3.4 replacement in the $450.00 to $600.00 range, and I would have less than $1200.00 bucks into it. Then everything from there becomes cosmetic, as far as spending more money on it.
Not to be negative… but every time I find a deal, well 99% of the time, in the end I could have bought something decent for what I put into them! I have passed up alot of cars a few years back I wouldnt have thought about twice.
im living it right now. a $200 88 camaro that i put way too much cash into…
but it has no putty or rust and still had factory paint when i got it.
I tend to agree, but in my current situation, coming up with a few hundred here, and few more there, is much easier than the 2-3K they seem to be asking for a decent running 93-95 4th gen.
You have spent some good money after bad though. I understand wanting the car to run NOW, but sometimes that impatience ends up costing you money in the end. And I think that is some of your spending. Your other spending has been the 15 sets of wheels.:finger: And after that it’s just upgrades, like the fiberglass hood, you really cant count that against the total of the car, because that money wasn’t spent to get it running, it was spent because you wanted it. And hell there is nothing wrong with that.
didnt adam (silver SS i think ) have a Lt1 complete for 500 bucks?
around that price i belive soo, and i think he still has it
The great redneck wiring of the door locks for the alarm.
The burned harness.
Even burned off the plug wires.
nice pioneer head unit, and very dirty interior.
Im with ya there! Im out of garage space or I may still be buying lol
Hey Tom Vito did you find that smell in the garage?
Yep the battery in the battery pack exploded, and that was the strong sulfer smell.
Hell of a buy for your car, Tom Vito
I searched the site for it and couldn’t find it.
