My cousin is looking to get one of these for his first car… just gathering some info up for him. What do you guys suggest he just turned 16 and is getting his licence so lets keeping the price budget on the downlow…

why bother with the insurance of a 5.0 right off the bat…
u could check corral.net or something like that they have a decent sized classifieds on thurr
all i can say, is he better have one hell of a job… not so much the budget… hes got to remember about gas prices now-a-days, and i highly doubt, hes NOT going to beat on a 5.0 being just 16 years old… just my $0.02.

as long as he has the money to pya for insurance, i guess…personally, i don’t think a 5.0 is a great furst car, but im only 19, so i cant really say much. as i said, im 19 and my dakota is registered in my mom’s name, and ive had no accidents (that were my fault and as a result of the one i did have, my insurance did not go up a penny) and my insurance is still through the roof. again, just my .02, but 16 year old + 5.0 + gas prices + insurance premiums = bad first car in my opinion

my main thing, is if they can handle having a 5.0 at 16. god damn, man… i wanted one, but ended up getting an '88 t-bird turbo coupe instead. i would have wrapped a 5.0 around a tree within a month with how stupid i was back then.
but if they’re not like that - best of luck finding one

amen to that! as much as i dislike my father, i have to admit that one of the few good things he did for me was not let me get a 5.0 when i was 16 (and i was damn close to doing it too). the '87-'93 mustang 5.0 hatchback will always hold a very very specail place in my heart though. and id JaysGreenLX was still for sale, i would have been on that, buecause that car seems to have been well cared for and its not beat on from what i can tell.
and IMO, 5.0s are not hard to find these days…good ones that have been taken care of, not re-built (from what myself or ghettostyle would have done with one) or not beat one, are hard to come by.
I had them when i was 17-20 Never got a speeding ticket…just wreckless endangerment and imprudent speed But seriously…they are not that fast esp. in stock form…15 flat with an ok driver is not scary.

im not saying that no young driver should have one, im just saying that a 16 year old who just got his license may not be ready for something like that right out of the box. i shouldnt have had one cuz i was just plain crazy when i got my license. hell, i used to screech the tires and take corners twice as fast as i should jhave in my mom’s '97 Sable wagon, which i could be seen rocking around wny when i first got my license.
come to think of it, i got pulled over more in that car than i did in my '88 chevy pickup (had a 350, loug exhaust and tints), my Porsche 944 (loud exhaust, smoked license plate covers, and i just plain drive it all the time like i was Michael Schumacher), and in my Dakota R/T.
yeah, i was waiting for that… i know it’s not, but i still feel that it’s a bit more of a car than the average 16-year-old can handle.
Aside from the RWD nature of the car…its not much more powerfull than anything else they could get their hands on.
