5.1 with a projector

Someone told me that 5.1 surround sound speakers do not work with projectors. I currently have the infocus in24. Im looking into buying a 5.1 set but was told if i hook a 5.1 system up to the projector, itll just utilize 2.1. Anyone know how accurate this is?

depends on the sound output of the projector…

if it has 5.1 support then… it can do the 5.1 sound… BUT… i dont know much about projectors… so i don’t know if a 5.1 projector is available

doesn’t a projector just have video input? Wouldn’t your audio be controlled by a reciever? I don’t see the problem. It’s like saying my TV isn’t compatible with 5.1 sound… If you have a 5.1 reciever, then you can use 5.1 sound with anything.

yea word… anything with 5.1 is just a sound card shoved into something to do its purpose whether its through cable or reading a dvd

You don’t run the sound through the projector… you use a seprate reciever/amplifier for sound.

Many projectors have a speaker or speakers in them, but it would be like listening to LOTR through your clock radio…

You use the projector (or any display device, really) as just that. Connect all your video sources to your preamp/reciever and send a single output to your display device.
