95 5.0 Burns Newish M3

Short version:

Newish M3 tried me at a stoplight. He caught me sleeping on the green, but I caught up quick and beat him by a little over a car lenght by the time my AODE got into 3rd gear. I was suprised I beat him, but I think his was an automatic.

Long version:

I’ve got lots of local random kill stories to share with either my 95 GT or my buddies 05 STI. If you all like this one, I’ll post more.

So I was out driving on a Sunday about a month ago, just killing an hour or so and enjoying the nice weather. I edited out because I posted where I was racing, and as luck would have it, a blue latest model BMW M3 flies past me in the left lane, only to get stopped at the next light. I pulled up next to him in the right lane and glanced over. It was a youngerish dude and his wife/girlfriend driving. They didn’t seem to be paying me much mind, so I figured that they weren’t going to try anything, and I really didn’t want to be the asshole in the loud Mustang who revvs his engine at the $40K BMW next to him. Besides, I only had 75 shot jets in my Zex system and I figured that I’d look ESPECIALLY stupid if I instigated with this guy and he beat me.

When the light turned green, the BMW driver suprised the hell out of me by going full bore right off the line, spinning a fair amount of tire and catching me asleep! As soon as I realized what was happening, I put the pedal to the floor and armed my nitrous system. The M3 was a good car lenght in front of me already. My BFG drag radials chirped and hooked quickly, and I began catching up. By the time my AODE shifted into second, we were door to door. Throughout second I creeped past him, and by the time I shifted into third, I had a solid car lenght on him.

I shut it down right after getting into third. I was suprised to have beaten him, and I think his M’er was an automatic as well because I only definitely heard him shift once.

At the next light, behind some traffic, the dude and his girl gave me smiles and waves, suprising me again by being pretty damned cool, especially for M3 owners.

My car’s a 95 GT automatic, with gears/bolt-ons/nitrous. I’ve run a best time of 13.3, hitting the rev limiter hard between first and second and getting stuck in first for a while, with a best MPH of 105.9 out at PRP.

you should write books

that is a lot of words.

LOL

Most boards I’ve gone to like details…let me edit the post.

Okay, how’s that? Better? No need to read much now, unless you want to.

haha short version and long version

good kill btw

nice kill! m3s are fast but that automatic gt you’ve got must be damn fast. i doubt his m3 was an automatic – they didn’t make them, they made a SMG which is rubbish compared to the manual.

Thanks for the kind words guys. I wish my car was damn fast…hopefully after the next $1000 I’m dropping into it in the next few months, I’ll be closer to that description. As of now, I’ll settle for “quicker than it looks!”. http://www.thegearheadlounge.com/forums/images/smilies/laugh.gif

Nice car

you have a new member of the roll racing mustang club :moon:
BTW nice car

 the mustang will nevAr lose

if you’re 0-60 is faster than 4.5 seconds, it’s damn fast. seriously man, how fast do you want a street car to be!!!

4.5 seconds is common for bolt only mustangs.
We do not care about 0-60. :booty:

fixed!its all about the ROLL

if you’re 0-60 is faster than 4.5 seconds, it’s damn fast.

Heh…according to the Gtech Pro, my 0-60 is 4.7 seconds. My buddy’s 05 STI runs 4.29 on the same Gtech Pro. At the track, I pass him right around the 1/8th mile and beat him by .4-.6 by the time it’s all said and done.

seriously man, how fast do you want a street car to be!!!

“You can never be fast enough”.

In all honesty, I’ll be happy with low-mid 12s by next year. I’d like to do fully streetable 11s in this car in the next few years. It’ll be a considerable amount of work for a home mechanic like me, but it’ll be worth it for sure.

The aode wont survive long. ford trannys are crap.

I’m having problems already Jim.

The AODE never flinched once when I threw 125 shot, 4.10, and drag radial launches at it, nor wide open throttle shifted on the juice.

Last week though, while cruising along at 70 or so on 279, it started slipping, BAD. When I checked the fluid, I found that the level was good, but it had way overheated. Tommorow I’m flushing the system, installing a bigger cooler, changing the filter, and filling it up with better Mercon V fluid. Hopefully this works for awhile.

The eventual plan is to run a Street Edge 2800 torque converter and manual valve body. These two additions should lead to a long lasting, healthy AODE (provided the one I have now isn’t trashed, in which case I’ll be buying a new, better AODE sometime soon).

i was using 0-60 because most americans i meet do not even know 1/4 times. if you’re getting a 0-60 of 4.5 to me that is fast enough. street cars dont need to be that fast even. at any faster i do not think i would appreciate driving the car around the streets. too much power if you ask me. myself i do not care what my 0-60 is. if i cannot go fast with 90bhp, 900bhp isn’t going to get me fast either.

now if it’s a track/drag car sure it is never fast enough.

Sure you would. It’s nice to have a lot of power at part throttle too, like when climbing hills, accelerating from a roll, etc. I’m mid 12s right now and I could live with some more for the streets!

Amen brother. I’d love to have a 10 second or even better street car, but I don’t have the funds nor the knowledge for such a project at this point, so I’m setting somewhat realistic goals.
