FYI - checking the back of your license isn’t really good enough. NY has an organ donor consent registry, where you give explicit consent to donation.

Otherwise, if you just check your license but don’t tell your family that you want to be a donor, your family has the right to say “no”.

at ten am today lindsay was taken off life support. at about 1130 she passed away. her kidneys were donated to an 11yr boy and a 9yr old boy

That is why I am NOT one. Doctors can say what they want about that not being true, but it is very fucking true. I don’t think that was the case with Lindsay, but it happens.
So sorry to hear. I really hope her family pulls through this okay.
Extremely sad. My thought and prayers go out to the family. It’s terrible to see such a loss of life at a young age like this.
