A little gun history

In Australia they bought back guns with taxpayer money. US never done this - so I’m not sure. They have been paying people to turn in illegal weapons.

And what does wood do?

…it floats!

therefore if you float you are a witch

Well then I crapped a witch this morning.

east less fiber…

Ahh the sink or float thread of UBRF… I was the reason that thread got deleted

And if you sink, may God pity your soul. Sorry. :frowning:

Nice try. :picard:

Therefore all things you crap float? Gosh, I don’t know what I did, this morning, then.

Australia’s legendary gun ban was in 1996.

The trend in the rate of recorded assault increased steadily from 1996 to 2006. The rate in 2006 was 829, compared with 623 per 100,000 in 1996. The 2006 rate was the highest recorded since 1996.
The rate for robbery peaked in 2001. Following a subsequent decline, the rate has levelled out to 84 per 100,000 in 2006.
The rate of kidnapping remained between 3 and 4 per 100,000 between 1996 and 2006.
The homicide rate was 1.9 in 1996 (which includes the 35?victims of the Port Arthur massacre) and was at its highest in 1999 at 2.0 per 100,000. By 2004 it had dropped to 1.5?and has remained stable since then.
The rate of recorded sexual assault increased between 1996 and 2006 from 79 to 88 persons per 100,000. However, the increase has been much less marked in more recent years.

So either the statistics are made up or this email is 12 years old. (See my previous post, Australia banned guns after the Port Arthur massacre in 1996, homicide is down now.)

 NO, NOT POSSIBLE, GUNS END CRIME, THE SOVIET UNION PROVES THAT

COMMUNIST

:stuck_out_tongue: My problem is that I’m more pro-truth than I am pro-gun. I like guns, but I’m against gun control because it’s a political football masquerading as being tossed around in our best interest.

I’d say don’t mine if I do, but fry already covered that…so I’ll just say its way too late for that lol. Of all the things I’ve ever lost, I miss my mind the most.

Very true. The fact of the matter is, a gun is only as dangerous as the person using it. Just like a car, if you are not responsable and drive like an idiot, you can hurt yourself and others. A gun is no different. There are rules to fallow, when these rules are not fallowed, people get hurt. It comes down to responsability.

true… thus many people should not have guns who end up with them.

I love to argue with people who are against concealed carry on college campuses.

Once they see the irony in their argument, the look on their face is pretty cool.

:word: I haven’t come across a convincing argument that gun control laws (or lack thereof) have really any effect on crime.

what are you talking about mclovin

well…there has only been 1 instance of a LEGALLY obtained fully auto machine gun being used in a crime and it was by a Police officer :gotme:. That says something about the differance between law abiding citizens and criminals. Everyone is so against them, yet the only one used in a crime was by a cop…ironic…oh yes.

Here’s how it usually goes:

-First, it is usually established that concealed carriers are extremely responsible people. There are only a handful of CCW news reports to EVER show a CCW holder was responsible for a crime, even less a gun related crime.

-Guy agrees, but says college campuses are not the place for guns because people will get shot…why? Because there are guns on campus.
-I remind them that CCW holders are everywhere in public, and nothing of the sort happens.

-Well…college students are too young!
-They need the CCW license anyways, which not only takes forever to get, but isn’t handed out to just everybody. Background checks galore!

-Well…someone could slip through the background checks.
-Slipping through multiple background checks is nearly impossible. Regardless, it costs a lot of money to just get a CCW, which doesn’t include the handgun itself or any of the training classes…which is something a perpetrator doesn’t want to go through just to get a gun, when he could just go obtain one illegally in a day.

Bottom line: if someone wanted to get a gun on campus, they would get one illegally. A CCW permit is issued to those who register with the state and are willing to drop enough time and money into the matter to LEGALLY carry, and know how to use, a weapon in public. Which in and of itself is extremely responsible.
