2nded, mike is awesome
There are a bunch of good guys here for sure. Bing, Greg, Gautam, Marc and Mike… those guys are doing their jobs well.
I do not like the idea of a presidency.
a board of directors would seem more organized and offers more creativity tgo horizons than one presidents direction.
this is a gentelmans club. We need no Leader. WE need LEADERS
Oooh! I can’t believe nobody else thought of that. I think that’s a brilliant suggestion. Best idea I’ve seen yet.
next step:
distinquish who the gentleman are and seperate them from the faggots?
Actually that is a fantastic Idea. There will also be more support for the boards instead of just having Bing and Andy dealing with all of the forum problems.
Thsi is something that really should be discussed
i totally agree what with theo is saying, we do need a more active admin council there is only a hand full of active admins on this club the rest dont really seem to care much
i think, we are all looking at the small picture…
Big picture, is that people make to many posts, that dont help them, or their cars, which annoys people and causes issues that shouldnt even arise on a CAR FORUM.
Everyone contributes in their own manner, some people dont have the time on their hands like others do, but people who dont do fuck all for the forum cannot be the ones making judgement as to who is a mod and who isnt, or who deserves to be. They dont know the responsibility of being a MOD, so how can they judge who is one?
Last but not least, this is a place to come and have fun, no one should feel that they are burden’d or have anyone to answer to when they are devoting their time and effort to being a mod,for free, i find that the mods/pres now do a fine job and they should be the only ones critizing themselves.
werd…
werd, true nuff
hahaha hey Jess, I think we should turn into ziptied. Application process.
Andrew.
fyi…
David, philp and I tried to organize this club 3 years ago, and we were voted down… we wanted to have a BOD , and incorporate the club so the leaders are protected…
it was voted down, and since then IMO the club has gone to shit…
no more tech sessions…
no more yearly lapping days with NEO…
no more big outings like we used to have…
1= we need a leader…
2=we need a real BOD
3=we need to incorporate and insure the club…and start having real track days and tech sessions again…
ahhhhhh…
well I guess I am getting old … Maybe you guys needs a 35 year old to take control again
WHAT philip , David and I wanted was to get CASC affiliated so we could ride on thier insurance, and hold some SON race events. is that so bad?
we could hold our own SON drift events and actaully MAKE money for the club… hold our own SON lapping days…
we left cause… the liability with all the ying yangs running around at our events was getting crazy… the last BIG SON event we put together had huge numbers come out…and we lost 3…yes 3 figgen cars due to silly accidents…YES 3
and as the organizers we were not willing to accept the liability if any of that kinda stuff…
i think the club needs to be reborn…
it needs new direction and leadership…
and it needs to have events planned and executed like before…
it needs people to promote…drift events, road events, lapping days, and solo events…and tech sessions…
IMO
case in point…I offered to host and do a tech session at ORF for November… did it happen…no…why… no leaders contacted me to plan it…
old man Adam
"Adam and Phil are old men… they wanted the club to become a racing club for people only interested in becoming sanctioned by a particilar racing body… it ceased to be a 240sx club at that time.
please dont glorify them as being anything more than what they were. the golden days of SON, if there were any, were after they left and to be honest i think we might be in the midst of the best times right now anyways and everyone is just failing to see it because they never stopped to realise what they wanted back then and that it pretty much happened.
no hate for Adam or Phil, i have spoken to Adam several times, i like him, he’s cool, i respect what he does and what he knows but they were wrong about many things as well, for example their excuse that they left because of a liability for SON user’s actions… that is bullshit… its an excuse.
they left, they were not pushed away, andrew took over at that time… please also remember that… they left of their own accord. "
Why incorporate?
first off, the paperwork for an incorporation costs a minimum of $618 a good deal on an incorporation package with a lawyer or para-legal will run $1000 or slightly less.
secondly, incorporating no longer absolves anyone from liability. The corporate vail no longer exists.
thirdly, the way that the forums / club is set up does not exclude the possibilty of tech sessions. anyone and everyone is free to hold these types of events, to post them on the forum and to invite everyone out to them. if that were to happen i am sure you will get several people out to them.
fact is that no one has done it.
If one were to add up the amount of track days this year help by Derek, Jover, CSCS, driftnation, etc. etc. made it a possibilty for track time every single week of the driving season.
SON members were present at every single one of these track days… NEO also had their track days, ie their event at Calaboogie (spelling?) as well as others.
The excuse that there were no track days is NOT A VALID ARGUEMENT… there was plenty of available track time advertised through the forums.
Derek and RR are already setting up their track days next summer.
The track day arguement becomes an issue of “official SON track days” vs. unofficial SON track days… true enough that SON didnt through an OFFICIAL track day with NEO, that i dont contest.
if it is any consolation Derek has already approached me about lining up a Dunnville track day with the Meet i throw here at the beginning of summer.
however, if the root of the protest is the track days and the issue of official vs. unofficial then to me it is really a non-issue.
furthermore, any liability of SON would be INCREASED by an officially sanctioned SON track day, and it is therefore decreased by the absence of such an official track day without available track time being affected by a single minute.
Adam, please host a tech session where ever you feel most comfortable, post it in the event section and invite all interested parties from SON… i am certain you will have many people show up.
however…
there is no single person in the admin capable of hosting and developing a legitimate tech session… i sure couldnt put on a credible one, nor could andrew, greg, phil, etc. etc.
i’m indifferent on the concept of a BOD, in my opinion we operate as one anyways because no one person makes any major changes on one’s own anyways… titles shmitles.
Adam, i am not sure how i could be of any help with such a tech session. I certainly dont have any information to offer.
i know that there are people on this forum that would be glad to attend, andrew is obviously one, and i am sure people like bob, sasha, etc etc would also benefit from such a session.
fact is though that there are hundreds of active members that wouldnt show up to such an event and shouldnt be forced to take on an interest in racing.
IMO the majority of people are here in a social sense. they want to get basic tech info on thier cars, the likes of which is available through forums, they want to meet people near them to cruise with and talk 240’s with. They dont want to put their car on the race track in a competitive sense because of insurance issues among others… look what happend to Paul when he simply called his insurance company about track time.
Because of that fact the club CAN have track days, tech sessions, etc. etc… but does NOT have to be focuses on only those events.
Social gatherings like the Summer and Fall meets are at least equally as important, i am sure you will agree.
whats more is that every year i have had more and more people show up to these events here in Niagara… we are now OVER 100 cars, whereas we had only 20 or so back 2-3 years ago.
to all the nay-sayers… go find me an Ontario based club that has larger meets than ours… i have niagara regional police officers coming for dinner and cruising with us, we have the parents of son users from 3 horus away driving in to see the meets. we had a 76 car, single file cruise for over an hour without incident this year… show me another Ontario club that has had that in recent years…
so if you guys are going to tell me the club has gone to shit despite the fact that more and more people are showing up the meets and that i am already getting e-mails about people asking when it will be in 2007 and the fact that people are driving from 3-6 hours away to attend our meets (several NEO boys showed up at the fall cruise remember) then you better have some quantifiable proof to the contrary… i am betting it doesnt exist…
as for Tech sessions and organized track days… it is up to the people who have a particular passion for those types of events to set them up… they can use SON to promote and draw people from it but we DO NOT get to tell SON and its 3900 registered users that we are now a focused racing forum and that SON240sx.ca sucks if we dont have tech sessions and sanctioned track days… that wouldnt be fair to the majority of the users.
Rolling 76 cars deep…
please dont tell me this place is a shit hole, it’s beyond insulting. Anyone who was ACTUALLY there this year would disagree.
I used to host the largest honda crx meet in north america in my backyard. We had over 100 crx’s and counting all hondas the number was near 150.
That meet included a ton of stuff…
-bbq
-raffles on about 20 items
-50/50 draws
-10 trophy classes
I’ll post up some pics when I am done work.
I know there are a few members here that have been there and can attest to how well the meets were run.
My parents sold that property, that is why we don’t hold them their anymore. (plus I have no interest in that scene anymore)
Theo, i know that…
Lets make a plan of action.
A: Vote on the key issue, do we need to reorganize the SON leadership?
- If the vote’s tally to leadership changes then:
B: Vote on the direction to take
C: Nominate yourself or other active SON members
D: Vote
E: …
F: Profit.
If not:
B: Volunteer your time to work with the current leadership.
or
B: Do nothing
here’s the problem with OFFICIAL SON track days and the such. People here are cheap. Ask Derek the percentage of SON people out at his track day’s compared to other’s…It’s quite low.
Now average that against the members of the “club” and it nets you less than 1 or 2% of the total “club”.
Even if we have a meet/dunville day, half the people who show to the meet won’t go to the track. It’ll end up being the same group who it has been for years.
Everyone says they want the “club” to move forward and in new directions, but simple stat’s show that less than 10% of the “club” is activiley involved in the regular meets, and the big yearly meets.
to make this clearer; say 400 people come to bings meet
thats about 10% of the total members
then say 100 stick around and go on a cruise. that’s 25% of 10%
which equals roughly 2.5% of SON members are actively involved in the “club”.
Edit
To further this point, To vote in a board of directors, We would need Quorum, 66% of the total members to vote. Or this is the way i understand it. 2.5%, or even 10% does not become close to these figures. To make any vote on policy such as these matters concern, would not be valid.
If not many people express an interest in attending Dunville days, that is only partly to their lack of interest in racing. There are people that have a lack of interest in Dunville. If you guys want a nice SON track day, host a Shannonville day like BE does. The only people that go to those are Andrew and myself, but they are of much higher quality, imo. Track is good, track time is good, price is good. Plus the owner of the track doesn’t make an issue of personally insulting racers and alienating them from his track.
