A lot of people are starting to complain about the club. I think we need to make the majority of the club members only, expand on the regions section and promote much more off line meets.
Other obvious problems are the numerious locked threads, a lot of people are complaining.
I think that we should keep the OT, car chat, meets(separated into regions again and one over all son meets section), FAQ/tech
and the only non members sections should be new members and buy/sell
OT is where a lot of people get to know others and is a large part of the community no matter how stupid it may seem.
I know there is a petition going around to change it even further than this, so please post your thoughts and lets see if we can make everyone happy

I agree with about 60% of that, but I don’t agree to the reorganization entirely. Nor do I think that such drastic changes need to be made, but there definitely needs to be more “club” activity.

As for you Jesse, you are perhaps the biggest post whore on SON - no
offence, but you know it yourself. Don’t try to step up and act like a hero
and pretend that the forums going downhill hasn’t be largely in part to
your efforts.
If anyone would like to make suggestions or talk to me, feel free to use
PM or MSN… This will be more effective than creating arguments among
members.
My involvement in this was not to creat aruguments. It was to make a point and explain what we want to see happen. Andrew, you have done a good job and Marc should not be questioning it. I talked with Gonad last night and told him everything I knew, and what I believe was best form of action. I’m sure he will bring up what we discussed when you guys are talking about this subject.

I didn’t create that petition. You know I would talk to you first. Jesse sent it to me and asked if I agreed with it, and I said I agreed with some of it, but not all. That’s it.
Also, I have no problems with you (Andrew - iQuaBob) as prez. You’re a friend, a good guy and I like you. I just suggested that maybe you’re too busy with other things to do what you might like to do in your current position, but that’s not for me to decide which is why I didn’t mention it to anyone (except G, just in passing).
I agree with the first portion of what you said however not about the OT section.
I think the OT section is whats keeping you guys behind and whats keeping SON staff busy with deleting useless crap. OT is where people go to waste time and waste SON’s bandwidth that could be used in better ways. If anything people should come to SON with a goal to ask for advice and keep things on topic pertaining to the car. Car chat should be used as a means for people to get to know each other and offline meets should be used to get to know one another better.
If there was no OT, Car Chat can have some leway interms of being on topic all the time, but the idea is to keep things on topic about the car. thats what this forum is for.
No saying to be serious all the time, but again like I said in the topic that was locked, Off-topic has consumed the most bandwidth out of all other forums on SON for the past 5-months, and really it shouldn’t be that way.
try and simplify and not make things more complicated. If you want to setup regions again, have it for planning meets thats it. Car Chat should be for everyone to partake in and should not be split.

we dont need to make it stricter, just more organised with members/non-members and payment, that should sort things out.

We need to make this club a “Club”, NOT an online forum. You still don’t see the real picture.

And lots has changed in the last 4 months. There are 50 members in member section. There are prob nomore than 50 active members, and the same people that have been with this club though last years organization try are still here. All the people that complained have disappeared.
WE ARE DOING THIS FOR OURSELVES AND NOT OUTSIDERS.
If you want an online forum, go to NICO or freshalloy. This is a club, not an online forum.
If people are enthusiastic about there car, they will join our club. They will come to meets. But I believe this should be a paying member club. How cool is it to go book a track a year in advance. We can’t do that as of now. I could ramble forever.
OT was not around all the time. Its only been around for a short time.
Anyway, make the decision. Do you want to be an online forum or a “Club/community”??

Racer 240sx man, you really need to think about the better of this car club and not what convenient and whats nice. OT can go, it really can, it’s whats attracting and keeping other people who dont contribute in a constructive way.
and yes, if you saying that we want to turn it into car strictly car board (from your broken message) Then yes, it’s what the people here want this club to change to. that would mean that “Car Chat” could ease up, and have OT’s every once in a while, but OT just breeds the wrong members and non constructive conversation.
The media section can go, people can post up pics and vids on Car Chat.
if you can compile them all into one section that would be cool, but the way it was posted before, you mentioned getting rid of them with no reason to why we should.

i see son as place where we are all freinds shooting the breeze with a strong definite intrest, the 240sx. Isn’t that whats going on? we are a club, why can we not have a place to communicate, share funny things, show a cool movie (about anything) you found on the net, just as you would with imidiate friends over a messenger serivce, except son is on a larger scale. You want to get serious then post serious stuff on the boards, it doesn’t mean you have get rid of all the fun son has. We are a club and have meets frequently, i’m not sure what we are missing.
i think we need to see what everyone wants son to be, not what an individual who thinks they know what son needs to be (not pointing fingers or naming names).
Start a thread in car chat, “what do you want son to be”. i’m sure son can be anything to everything, we just need to eliminate what people dont want.

hey andrew i’m curious to know how you are “spelling” it out?, sure your giving your opinion and spelling it out, but what about others? Your not seeing the Admin/Mod section so you don’t see the actual goings on with this, but i’ll rephrase my opinion here just like i did there. The closing all forums down for non-paying mebers is good to get people to finaly pay, but what about the memerbs to be? the ones browsing for a forum to get tech help, or just want to talk cars with other people, they are not going to pay 25$ for a club that might be good. The average age of people on this club is around 18-19, and yeah restricting it will get knowledgable enthusists to come, but if they are knownedgeable enthusits then they would have most likely joined a board before they were knowledgable, when they were noobs, with no cash, not about to burn it on a forum that might be good. Do you see my point?

i still dont understand why everything on the boards has to be on the topic of cars only? Sure we are a car club but we all have other interests and other things we want to share. I agree there is some real cock posts in OT but there are also things that make me laugh and i enjoy. You can leave it and if you dont like it then dont view it.
Basically, to justify the membership price and make it more of an exclusive club, there needs to be more benefits to being a member. For example, I think all group buys should be limited to full members, and full members only. You may think it will limit the number of people who will buy, but after someone sees 2 or 3 group buys that they want tog et in on, they will realize the $35 membership fee is well worth it. Another idea is to limit all tracks meets, go-kart meets, etc. to full members only. The regular “parking lot” meets can be joined by people who are interested in becoming full members, but the other meets should be more exclusive. That would go a long way to making this more of a club and less of a forum.
Sure you would. And like I said, more people would become members as they see the group buy savings are worth the $35.
