when I was first dating my wife I had a 99 zx7r, then a DR650 (tried the on/off road wasn’t bad just not my thing) then got a yzf 600r (knock off R6)
I really enjoy taking my Wife with me for rides, she will even take pics off the back of the bike. I like turning, and often take longer rides to the finger lakes.
I liked my 7r but it was not overly reliable left me stranded once or twice, may have been because last owners didn’t know what maintenance was, or know that they needed to do it. but it wasnt bad 2-up.
my DR sucked, was slow on the road, was to heavy off the road, and was HORRIBLE 2-up, but NEVER left me stranded.
My 600R was a awesome bike when I was riding alone, I liked everything about it. BUT its was HORRIBLE 2-up my whole body hated me after only a 2 hour ride with the wifey.
I see Zongs bike and tossed it around a bit, but wonder how a 6r would be 2-up can only imagine it would be like the 600r, I was thinking going liter, I borrowed some ones GSXR1000 once and went 2-up and must say had great power but having 2-up killed the weight distribution made it harder to handle then a Harley.
I know no super-sport bike is MADE for going 2-up and the rear seat is really only for emergencies. is maybe sport tourer? one that can handle, is well balanced even with 2 and wont kill the bank? I guess if I had to pick a price range staying 5kish would be good. I was looking at older BMW’s possibly… but point me in a direction. I’m not very brand loyal.
Thats a very good question. I never shopped for bikes with the 2-up idea in mind, lol… but it’s awesome you have a lady friend that isn’t afraid to hop on and ride. Sounds like a keeper!
I met a guy from sportriders that races an 05-06 body style 636 and often did track days 2-up with his wife on the back! I personally loved my 636 and it handled just find with my gf at the time on the back. Granted she was not a rice grain over 100 lbs, but still.
I rode a sv650 reminded me a lot of my 600r, unfortunately I rode it solo so nothing to compare… I bet the 1000 would be decent, Ill keep my eyes pealed for one. im not sure how a seller would react if i asked to take a test ride 2-up lol
Also the wifey isnt huge either ~140 not a rail but not bigger then me lol, im 180. so the bike would have to be able to handle 350+lbs of rider and gear. and still turn.
^^get her a license and two bikes, then you can both have rice rockets! =)
edit: my g/f and i took rwp together and we both have bikes now! so nice not having her on the back and its fun to go out and cruise with her! better than riding solo all the time
I got her a 250 ninja last year, she rode that while I rode my 600r it was nice but, she liked being on the back of my bike better. and I always feel paranoid somethings going to happen, plus I really dont want to have to insure and upkeep 2 bikes. and she would NEVER ride as aggressively as I would so going and doing the twisties was out. but she has no problem letting me knee drag 2-up
Edit: yes I took that picture over my shoulder while riding the 600r…
^ she wont ride on the back of my 05 because the exhaust is under the rear seat and shes nervous it will burn her ass lol… i seriously doubt it will get that hot… but thats her excuse… o well… maybe i can go two up with you!..:skunk:
just took out my 06 r6 w/ my gf and it wasnt actually that bad. prob would suck for anything over two hours but for two 45 min trips it wasnt bad at all
buy my gsxr 1000, id let it go for 4 grand obo, i wouldnt mind picking up something different, im tired of suzuki and ive put like 2k miles on it, just hit 8800 today
