Any Winos out there??

Just wondering if anybody out there is into wine and the culture that surrounds it?

I would like to be but I have to start building a collection and learning what makes good wine good. I’m more in the cigar culture. Though cigars and wine have very similar attributes as far as collection and preseveration.

Good deal, I can assist you in the wine department, it is what i do for a living. I too have been getting into the cigar side of things recently so maybe we could answer each others questions. I also recently discovered the Tinder Box…what a place, it’s the biggest tobacco store i have ever been in.

yea I declare myself a wine-o. . .

I like hanging out at Tinderbox, but their prices are very high. Virgil Avenue Tobacconist has some better prices but I thought their staff was a little unfriendly.

I order stuff from www.cigarsinternational.com They always have deals on decent brands.

As far as the wine goes, I don’t know the first thing about it. I’ve had different kinds and have found very few that I like. I tend to go for a more fruity taste which I attribute to me being a beginner and lacking the ability to distinguish different nuances.

I have been known to drink a bottle or two by myself from time to time  But yeah, the woman and I go out to the fingerlakes and southerntier a couple times a year taking tours. That for me was the best way to really learn what I liked and got a decent idea of what I was looking for. Its also fun if you go in a group or make a weekend out of it

Jeller, let me know if you ever want to go to the Fingerlakes or down near Fredonia/Forestville to hit some wineries. I have a pretty good relationship with most of them through work and we can definatly get hooked up with the baller-level tour and tasting.

Wal-Mart Wine
Wal-Mart has announced that they will soon offer customers a new
Discount item: Wal-Mart’s own brand of wine. The world’s largest
retail chain is teaming up with E & J Gallo Winery of California to produce
the spirits at an affordable price, in the $2-5 range.
Wine connoisseurs may not be inclined to throw a bottle of Wal-Mart brand
into their shopping carts, but “there is a market for cheap wine”,
said Kathy Micken,of marketing, “but the right name is important.”
Customer surveys were conducted to determine the most attractive name
for the Wal-Mart brand. The top surveyed names in reverse order of
popularity are:
10. Chateau Traileur Parc
9. White Trashfindel
8. Big Red Gulp
7. World Championship Riesling
6. NASCARbernet
5. Chef Boyardeaux
4. Peanut Noir
3. I Can’t Believe It’s Not Vinegar!
2. Grape Expectations
And the number 1 name for Wal-Mart Wine:

  1. Nasti Spumante

The beauty of Wal-Mart wine is that it can be served with either white
meat (possum) or red meat (squirrel).

All I have to say is thank god this will not happen in New York.

I wouldn’t call myself an expert by any means but I do enjoy wine.
My wife has taught me a lot about wine.
We have been to Napa, Sonoma, Niagara on the Lake, and the finger lakes a few times.
Years ago I would say you are crazy if you could tell the difference between wines but now I see, taste and smell differences easily.
Again, I am not an expert but, I do enjoy hobbies that involve alcohol.

I agree, alcohol-based hobbies are fun, and in all seriousness, a learning experience.

I will take you up on that in the summer time for sure

ill tag along, i know nothing about wines really beyond the names but hey Ill drink it whenever.

<-- wino.

yep. I love a good bottle or a few. I have found that locally restaurant wise, pietros has a decent selection. A bit pricey, well very pricey, but a good selection nonetheless.

I am not an expert, but i have learned quite a bit. The old CEO of the Park Club was a master somlier, and he was always good to talk to.

I really dont like many wines but I will say one that I consistently enjoy is Riesling.

Sometime in June I’ll post up about a wine trip to one of the fingerlakes. We can all drive up together and maybe grab a hotel or something.

I hear that a lot. Never had it myself. Perhaps I will give it a go.

There are several limo companies, and rental properties that have agreements that work out for pretty cheap, and you can get pretty f*up and not have to worry about which drunk is the best DDD. My parents and i had a hummer limo, and rented the ?red house? i think it was called, and iti really wasn’t too expensive for a weekend of fun and drinking

Wino doesn’t mean “a person who gets drunk off of 2 glasses”

I love wine
