Hey guys,
I’ve been on the forums for a while but this is my first time posting.
I finally got a 1995 240sx le and it needs to get some things done for etest and safety so i can get this car on the road and I was hoping you guys could help me out to find the least costly way to get things done cause I don’t wanna get rid of my car but right now it’s definitely looking like its not worth it at all.
For safety the biggest of my worries at the moment is that I need to install a clock spring back into my steering wheel cause the previous owner took it out/cut it when he installed his after market steering wheel and the price quote I got from my shop is mad expensive… (n)
For etest I THINK what I need is a new cat and o2 sensor and it should pass.
Any advice or tips would help a lot.
Thanks!
a good way to start when you first get a car is to put it on some jack stands and take some time looking over everything and make a list of what you need. check out underbody & suspension components, the engine bay, condition of floor & rockers, etc… you may find bad ball joints, worn bushings, whatever. if you’re not sure what you’re looking for grab a friend who does. there will be things you can do yourself (like parts on an exhaust system unless its rusted really bad) and you can get as much out the way as possible before spending money on the things you know you won’t be able to do.
new cat and 02 sensor could be done for under a hundo, easy to do your self with only a few tools. balljoints would be one of the first things i’d check out, like mp/b240 said underbody rust is something to look for as well as shitty bondo work. Best bet to get the steering wheel components, and any other parts you might need, would be to find a part out in classifieds, would definitely be the cheapest.
Try and do the work yourself, some shops can butt fuck you. In my experience, s14’s are pretty easy to work with, invest in some wd40 for when you encounter seized up bolts, because you will.
I took it to my mechanic to see what I needed to pass safety already and what he said I needed was to replace some bulbs and the front+rear brake hoses. I’m planning on doing my brake lines and lights on my own but I’m still waiting on parts.
It’s just I don’t know what to do about the clock spring cause the price quoted by my mechanic is really too expensive for me :\

I better start searching through some part out threads lol
oh and any idea on where I could find like a manual or diy’s for the steering wheel?
this is one of the best things i have ever downloaded: http://www.ka-t.org/fsm.php
highly recommend you download yourself the 95 240SX KA24DE manual, tons of information!
