Anybody has KA SOHC cam chain pic?

My cam chain starts ratttle when starts and revs up. I took the valve cover off and check the chain. The chain itself looks ok, but it has some slack on the right side of the motor - not sure if it suppose to have slack - . Also, does it supose to have a guide on the right side on the chain? I looked down, it looks like sth it’s already broken, not sure. Wonder if anybody has any pic of the cam chain please post it up Thanks

in this thread…the polished one, bling bling

i think he wants a pic of the inside of the motor, not the outside

This is of the DOHC but pretty much the same shit on a SOHC.

I helped a buddy change his SOHC chain guides, they were all worn so he got a lot of rattling.
Problem with chains is they still tend to stretch, so rather than going to all the work of replacing just the guides you might as well do the whole shebang.
We did the guides, the tensioner etc and it still rattled around abit.

And by right side I assume you mean if looking at the motor from the front (where the fan would be). That side doesn’t have a tensioner, just a long chainguide made of plastic and metal so if it’s got slack it’s probably because the chain has stretched a fair bit.

Did you do it with the motor in the car? If I want to change the chain and guide the whole 9 yard. What kinda components do I have to take off?

Adam - I don’t know if you know or not, but SOHC is quite a bit defferent if you don’t know what you are looking for… And ‘removing’ (usually broken already…) the right side guide is a bad idea.

It’ll eat through the coolant passage in the front cover causing many woes. I fixed mine with the engine still in the car, although it was a PITA.

Sorry if I sound like a stupid noob but is it bad for the engine if you have timing chain rattle?
